The Lead: The 11th-ranked Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team won its 10th-consecutive game Tuesday night as it defeated in-state rival Trinity College, 13-7. The Cardinals, ahead by one at halftime, scored 10 second half goals to pull away. FIRST HALF HIGHLIGHTS: The Bantams scored the first two goals of the game. With just 2:02 into play, Teddy Myers found the back of the net and two minutes later, Ben Knaus increased the visitor's lead. Wesleyan responded at the 8:11 mark as Carter Hawthorne '19 found Grey Bradshaw-Mack '17 for the Cardinals' first goal. Minutes later, Hawthorne connected with Taylor Ghesquiere '18 as Wesleyan knotted the game at 2-2 after the first 15 minutes of action. The second quarter was a defensive battle that featured just one goal as Cole Turpin '18 sent one past goalie Woody Hamilton with 11:09 on the clock, giving the Cardinals their first lead of the game. Neither team would score the rest of the half as Wesleyan held a 3-2 lead at the break. SECOND HALF HIGHLIGHTS: Trinity came out strong to start the second half as Knaus scored three times in the first 3:01 of play to put the visitor's back on top, 5-3. However, Wesleyan rallied in a big way and scored six unanswered goals to close out the quarter. Dupont scored three times during the run and dished out an assist as well to help give the Cardinals a 9-5 lead heading in the fourth quarter. Trinity got within two with goals at the 10:27 and 9:11 marks from Myers and John Caraviello, respectively, but Wesleyan went on another run to close out the game. The Cardinals scored the final four goals to claim the 13-7 victory. Dupont scored all four of his game-high four goals in the final 30 minutes of regulation. INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Dupont finished with six points (4g, 2a) to lead all Cardinals, while Ghesquiere and Turpin each scored twice. Hawthorne finished with four points on a game-high three assists, and Zach Zavalick '20 led the team with six ground balls. Ted Bergman '17 was terrific in net and stopped 14-of-21 shots he faced. Knaus finished with four goals and two assists as well, and Myers scored two goals to round out the top offensive performers for the Bantams. Defensively, Hamilton played a stellar game between the posts and finished with 20 saves. Wesleyan held a commanding 42-23 edge in ground balls and 56-26 advantage in shots. UP NEXT: The Cardinals return to the field Saturday, April 15 and will play at No. 15 Bowdoin. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
