DURHAM – Four Blue Devils registered hat tricks as the eighth-ranked Duke women's lacrosse team captured a 16-12 victory over Louisville Thursday evening at Koskinen Stadium. With the win, the Blue Devils improve to 9-1 and 2-1 in the ACC and remain undefeated at home. Sophomore Katie DeSimone paced Duke's offense with five points from four goals and an assist and added two caused turnovers. Graduate student Catriona Barry added four points from two scores and two dishes while senior Maddie Jenner and junior Olivia Carner added three points apiece. Katie Keller (2), Eva Greco (1), Abby Landry (1), Caroline DeBellis (1), Anna Callahan (1) and Maddie McCorkle (1) rounded out Duke's even scoring. The Blue Devils took a quick 3-0 lead under five minutes into the contest by way of two free-position attempts and a Carner score. The two squads traded the next four goals before DeSimone tallied her own goal and assisted on a Jenner tally with two minutes left in the first. Duke took a four-goal lead (8-4) in the second quarter and ultimately outscored Louisville 4-1 before halftime. Carner, DeSimone and Keller helped push Duke to an 11-5 lead at intermission. At halftime, Duke outshot Louisville 20-9 despite the even draw controls (9-9). The third frame was a back-and-forth affair between the two squads with 14 total points scored. Louisville cut it to a five-point lead (13-8) with seven minutes left, but Duke did not shy away and tallied three of the next four goals to end the period ahead by seven goals (16-9). Jenner tallied two goals in that timeframe, including a free-position goal. Duke was left scoreless in the fourth as Louisville tacked on three goals and outshot Duke 8-4 in the last 15 minutes. Duke won the battle of the draw circle (19-13) and was led by Jenner with 13. She is now nine away from breaking Duke's draw control record. DeSimone, Carner and Cubby Biscardi collected two caused turnovers each while Carner and Veronica Hineman grabbed two ground balls apiece. Senior goalkeeper Sophia LeRose got the start in goal and tallied five saves. Louisville was led by Hannah Morris and Nicole Perroni with four points each. Duke welcomes Davidson Sunday for a 2 p.m., contest at Koskinen Stadium.
