Senior attacker Tomasina Leska, a native of Vestal, New York, registered a career-high seven points on six goals and an assist against her hometown team. The Big Red women's lacrosse team dominated Binghamton, 23-5, Wednesday evening at Schoellkopf Field. All seven of Leska's points came in the first half. The Big Red (5-4) tied its program record of 23 goals in a single contest, which it set against California on March 29, 2015. Along with Leska, there were several other members of the Big Red who had career days. Sarah Phillips matched her career high with six points. With her first goal of the contest, Phillips registered her 100th career point as a member of the Big Red. After tacking on five more, she sits at 105 with 76 goals and 29 assists. Overall, there were nine members of the Big Red that had multipoint performances. Sophomores Ava Anderson and Ally Tetrault, not only registered their first career goals, but both managed to find the back of the net twice. The Bearcats (0-10) opened the scoring just over a minute and half into the game, with the first of Rebecca Golderman's three goals. Though Cornell answered back, putting up two goals in the matter 51 seconds. Philips gained the century mark on a beautiful feed inside from Ellie Walsh to even things up. Then, Leska netted the first of her seven goals. The contest remained tight for the first 20 minutes with the Big Red's lead spanning no larger than two until there was 9:40 left in the opening frame. Phillips put the Big Red up 6-3 on a find from Leska. The goal was the second of four consecutive tallies for the Big Red. Binghamton halted the 4-0 run with a goal from Sidra Morchower with 5:29 left in the first half. Though Cornell added four more goals before the end of the half to head to the locker room with a 12-4 advantage. Two of the goals during stretch came of the stick of Leska, while the other two were credited to Phillips and Caroline Allen. The run carried over into the second half as the Big Red added six more consecutive goals to make it a 10-0 spurt. Phillips netted her fourth of the contest just 48 seconds into the second half with the assist credited to Allen. Minutes later, Grace Paletta capitalized on a straightaway free position chance to make it a 10-goal lead. With 20:44 remaining in the contest, Anderson netted her first career goal. Anderson planted herself in eight yards away from the net and Allen connected with her. Anderson then flung the ball into the back of the net to put the Big Red ahead 15-4. Anderson's second goal was the last of the Big Red's 10-0 run. The Bearcats scored their lone goal of the second half off the stick of Ciara Gordon with 15:03 remaining. Cornell then added five more goals to close out the game, including Phillips sixth tally, Isabel Zachara's first goal of the season and both of Tetrault's goals. In net, Katie McGahan denied four of the nine shots she faced. The Big Red returns to action 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, when it takes on Rutgers on the road. NOTES TO KNOW Leska surpassed her season-total of goals coming into the game of five with six first-half goals. The senior's previous career high for goals was four, which she registered against Yale on March 24, 2018. Her previous high for points was five, which she recorded earlier this year against Marist. Phillips is now the team's leading goal-scorer this season with 27. She matched her career-high in goals which she also set against Marist earlier in the year. Allen registered her eighth multi-goal game of the season. Isabel Zachara contributed her first goal and assist of the season to tie her career high of two points. Grace Paletta registered her fifth two-goal performance of the season. Her older sister Natalie made her season debut. Cornell is now 8-0 in all-time series against the Bearcats. The Big Red outshot Binghamton 39-17 and won the groundball battle 19-10.
