Senior Hannah Powers turned in the Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team's first 10-point performance since 2015 to lead the 11th-ranked Greyhounds to a 21-7 win over Boston University Sunday afternoon at Ridley Athletic Complex. With a career-high seven assists, Powers became just the third Greyhound in program history to reach 100 collegiate assists, while her two goals moved her career total to 150. She now stands 10th at Loyola in goals scored, third in assists and sixth in points, with 253. Sophomore Livy Rosenzweig also had a standout performance, finishing with a season-high eight points. In the first half alone, Rosenzweig had four goals and three assists, while she added an assist in the second half. Sophomore Sam Fiedler and freshman Jillian Wilson each contributed four goals, while seniors Emily Cooper and Taylor VanThof scored twice and sophomores Elli Kluegel and Liz Scott tacked on one goal each. Junior Holly Lloyd rounded out the scoring with a pair of assists. In goal, sophomore Kaitlyn Larsson started the second half and stopped seven shots while allowing just one goal. Wilson led the defense with a career-high five ground balls and four caused turnovers, while senior Katie Korvin finished with three ground balls. VanThof, Powers and Rosenzweig sparked the offense from the beginning, as the trio combined to win the first five draw controls and help Loyola to a 4-1 advantage by the 25:19 mark. The trio finished the game with 21 combined draws, with VanThof winning 11 and Powers and Rosenzweig finishing with five each. Powers, Cooper, Rosenzweig and Fiedler also scored those first four goals for the Greyhounds. Boston pulled within two, 4-2, at 21:49, but three-straight goals from Wilson, VanThof and Cooper pushed the Greyhounds ahead 7-2 at the 16:22 mark. The Terriers' goal at 14:22 forced the Greyhounds to call a timeout, but Loyola came out of the break and scored six of the next seven goals to pull ahead 13-4. Boston closed out the half with a pair of scores and then used a third-straight – the first of the second half – at 28:09 to cut its deficit to 13-7. That would be the only goal the Greyhounds would allow in the second half though, as the offense went on a season-best eight goal run to close out the game with a 21-7 victory. Loyola will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Navy in the second game of a Loyola lacrosse doubleheader. The men will host Lehigh at 11 a.m., followed by the women's game against the Midshipmen at 3 p.m.
