The Mars Hill men's lacrosse team (3-2) downed Shorter (1-4) by a score of 8-6 Wednesday evening inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. The Lions opened the scoring in the first minute of play with a quick goal from Zac Carrigan, his 14th of the season. Following a pass from George Yanssens from five yards out, Carrigan's quick release put the Lions up 1-0 just 57 seconds into the contest. Just over five minutes later, the Hawks knotted the game at one following a goal from Kaleb Roehn. Carrigan netted his second of the game four minutes later, reestablishing the Lions' lead. Spencer Andrews scored 17 seconds later to put the Lions up 3-1 after the first 15 minutes of play. Shorter outscored the Lions 2-1 in the second quarter with goals from William Millwood and Chadd Halili. Andrews collected his second goal of the game with less than four minutes to play in the half, putting the Lions up 4-3 heading into halftime. Yanssens picked up his second assist of the half on Andrews' 18th goal of the year. Mars Hill doubled their lead in the third, outscoring the Hawks 4-1. Carrigan continued his hot shooting, netting three of the four Mars Hill tallies. Andrews added assists on two of the junior's goals. With just over five minutes left in the quarter, Marius Robinson scored his third of the season. Justin Lundy picked up his second assist of the quarter. Shorter outshot the Lions 12-6 in the final 15 minutes, scoring the only two goals in the fourth. Back-to-back goals by Trey Edge less than a minute apart pulled Shorter within two with 7:19 to play. Key saves from Ryan Prylinski preserved the two-goal advantage and led the Lions to their second straight victory. Carrigan led all players with five goals on the day. Andrews ended the day with four points (2g, 2a) while Lundy and Yanssens each recorded two assists apiece. Prylinski made a career-high 16 saves. Mars Hill closed out their five-game homestand with a 3-2 record with Prylinski going 2-0. The Lions take to the road to for the first this season, taking on Lander on Saturday, February 29. Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
