ITHACA, N.Y. -- No. 17 Stony Brook scored the game's first 12 goals and never looked back, topping Cornell 14-2 on Saturday afternoon at Schoellkopf Field. The Sea Wolves improved to 4-3, while the Big Red slipped to 4-3 itself. The visitors outshot the home team 23-4 in the decisive first half, outscoring the Big Red 11-0. Ally Kennedy and Siobhan Rafferty each scored four goals while Taryn Ohlmiller had a hat trick and added an assist. Keri McCarthy notched four assists and added four draw controls, while Haley Dillon caused three turnovers. In goal, Anna Tesoriero had five saves while playing all but the final 33 seconds to pick up the win. Katie McGahan had 12 saves and allowed 12 goals, stopping six shots in both halves. Both Tomasina Leska and Genevieve DeWinter each scored goals for the Big Red. The visitors scored four goals in the first 5:44 and the Big Red couldn't generate any offense as the Sea Wolves controlled possession through much of the first 30 minutes. Stony Brook won the ground ball battle (12-6) and caused 11 turnovers in the half and 19 for the game. Winter finally got Cornell on the board with 19 minutes remaining on a free-position shot and Leska capped the scoring on a feed from Caroline Allen with 5:52 left. At 2-0 in Ivy League play, Cornell will attempt to regroup when it visits Penn on Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m.
