(U-M Lacrosse Stadium) Score: Michigan 11, Dartmouth 10 – 2OT Records: U-M (4-0), Dartmouth (0-2) Next U-M Event: Sunday, Feb. 24 -- at Colorado (Boulder, Colo.), noon MST ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team overcame a late start and giving up a one-goal lead in the closing minutes of regulation to earn its fourth straight victory with an 11-10 double-overtime victory over Dartmouth on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 17) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium. Sophomore Maggie Kane sprinted to the ball to win the draw control to start the second overtime period and the Wolverines worked the ball around the offensive end to the stick of junior Molly Garrett. Garrett came up from the right side of the net and fired a shot over her right shoulder into the upper half of the goal to lock up the Michigan victory. Three Wolverines recorded multi-goal performances with junior Lilly Grass notching her fourth straight game with at least two goals while junior Nadine Stewart has back-to-back two-goal games. Senior Adriana Pendino also collected two goals and has scored at least two goals in each of U-M's four games this season. In all, eight Wolverines found the back of the net against Dartmouth. Sophomore Caitlin Muir was a huge piece of the Michigan offense against the Big Green as she scored one goal and assisted on three to mark her second straight game with three assists. Michigan was disciplined on the draw control, leading the category 15-10, over the Big Green as Garrett paced the team with five and Gabby Burns had four. Defensively, Michigan forced Dartmouth into 19 turnovers, while picking up 18 ground balls. In goal, senior Mira Shane recorded a career-best 16 saves against the Big Green and kept Dartmouth at 5-for-14 on free position shots. Dartmouth opened the game's scoring, netting two goals before Kane brought Michigan within one with 15:50 remaining in the first half of play. Three minutes later, Pendino scored the equalizer before the teams exchanged three more goals with Pendino knotting the score at 5 heading into halftime. Dartmouth took the lead to open the second half when they scored up a player before Michigan once against answered on a Muir goal with 23:37 minutes remaining in regulation. The Wolverines scored three unanswered goals to take its biggest lead of the game, 9-6, with 17:26 left to play. The Big Green battled back to come within two, but U-M answered on a Grass goal off a pass from Muir. A yellow card proved costly for the Wolverines for the second time in the match when Dartmouth cut its deficit to 10-8 with 8:43 left on the game clock. With less than two minutes to go in regulation, Dartmouth was able to knot the score at 10 and send the game into overtime. Neither team could find the back of the net in the first six-minute overtime period as the teams went to their benches for a short break. Kane came up big for the Wolverines on the draw control to start the final sequence. The Wolverines will be back in action on Sunday (Feb. 24) at Colorado when they travel to Boulder for a noon MST contest against the Buffaloes.
