The University of Denver women's lacrosse team defeated Louisville 18-2 in a snowy home opener on Saturday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. The Pioneers have been victorious the last three-consecutive home openers, taking down Stanford in 2018 and Louisville in 2017. With the win Denver improved to 3-0 on the year while the Cardinals fell to 0-3. "I'm proud of the overall team effort," said head coach Liza Kelly. "I think the players on the field were executing in tough conditions and our bench was having a blast on the sideline with all their "cellies"! Overall it was a fun home opener!" Pioneer Performers: Senior Julia Feiss led the Crimson and Gold offense with six of their 18 goals, recording her first sock trick since March 10, 2018 against Niagara. Quintin Hoch-Bullen followed suit with three goals, while Eliza Radochonski and Bea Behrins recorded two apiece. In addition to her three goals, Radochonski also led the team with three assists against the Cardinals. Katherine Fischer held down the defense corps with six groundballs and three caused turnovers, while Maddie Baum won six draw controls. Holding Down the Fort: Carson Gregg saw a little over 51-minutes in goal, totaling six saves. Amelia Cole got into the net for the first time this year, recording eight-minutes of playing time. Freshman Contributions: Freshman Kailee Lammers recorded both her first goal and her first hat trick for the Pioneers. All three goals coming from free-position shots in the second half. High Numbers: The last time Denver scored more than 15 goals was on May 11, 2018 against High Point, totaling 19 to win the first round of the NCAA Tournament. What's Next: The Pioneers will remain at home in Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium for the next three games. Next welcoming Stony Brook at 10 a.m. MT on Sunday, Feb 24.
