NEW HAVEN, Conn. – With No. 11 Princeton battling to stay at the top of the Ivy League standings, the Yale women's lacrosse team was facing a tough opponent in the Tigers Saturday afternoon amidst the raindrops at Reese Stadium. Yale got a standout game from sophomore midfielder Sam Higgins -- four goals, a ground ball and a draw control -- but other than that Princeton kept Yale's offense in check. The Tigers got goals from nine different players for a 19-4 win. Saturday's game was a matchup between the top two shooting teams in the Ivy League, and Princeton (11-3, 5-1 Ivy League) started hot. The Tigers scored the first eight goals of the game on 12 shots. Higgins stopped that streak with a tally at 12:36 of the first. She scored again less than four minutes later, but the Tigers went into halftime up 14-2. First-year goalkeeper Clare Boone came on for sophomore Amelia Drake (five saves) for the second half, and went on to make two saves as Yale (6-8, 1-5 Ivy League) held Princeton to five goals in the final 28:13. But Princeton's defense kept the Bulldogs in check, as two more tallies from Higgins was all that Yale could muster. Senior attacker Izzy Nixon added a game-high seven draw controls, bringing her total to 149 for the season and adding to her own Ivy League record. Four of the Tigers' goals came from attacker Tess D'Orsi, whose father, Scott, is a 1990 Yale graduate and played ice hockey for the Bulldogs. Her brother Will is a junior on the Yale ice hockey team. Princeton remains in a tie for first place in the Ivy standings, as Dartmouth beat Cornell to move to 5-1 in the league as well. The Big Green come to Reese next Saturday.
