The No. 8 Cornell men's lacrosse team scored early and often as it dominated every facet of the game against Division I newcomer St. Bonaventure this evening at Schoellkopf Field. The Big Red scored the first six goals of the game and never looked back as it stormed to the 18-3 victory. In all, 16 different Cornell players registered a point, as every healthy Big Red saw the field. John Piatelli (four goals, two assists), Jeff Teat (four assists) and Clarke Petterson (three goals, one assist) led the offense, despite playing for less than 17 minutes. The trio had a hand in nine of the Big Red's first 11 goals and Cornell held the 11-1 advantage just 1:23 into the second quarter. The reserves were led by Colton Rupp's three points (two goals, one assist), while freshmen JJ Lombardi and Billy Coyle tallied two goals and two assists, respectively. In goal, all four Big Red netminders saw action with both Caelahn Bullen and Parker Henderer registering four saves and allowing one goal. Chayse Ierlan got the start and earned the win with one save and one goal-allowed in 21:15 of action, while Teddy Strzetelski closed out the game and did not face a shot. The Big Red won 20-of-25 face-offs, with Paul Rasimowicz (6-of-6), Luca Tria (5-of-5) and Hunter Hughes (1-of-1) posting a perfect day, while Tim Graham won 6-of-8. With his six face-off wins, Rasimowicz moved into eighth place in Cornell history for wins in a career. He also finished with a game-high four ground balls and registered his first assist of the season. In addition to its big day in the face-off circle, Cornell held the significant advantage in ground balls (45-16), shots (48-18) and shots on goal (34-12). The Big Red was 11-of-12 on clears, while the Bonnies were just 13-of-17. St. Bonaventure (0-6) was led by Sean Westley's one goal and two assists. Both goalies were solid for the Bonnies with Brett Dobson making 10 saves and allowing 13 goals in the loss, while Ben Mazur came on in relief and stopped six shots and allowed five goals. The visitors also went 2-of-4 on its extra-man opportunities, while holding Cornell scoreless on its one chance. Cornell (5-2) will continue its three-game home-stand at Schoellkopf Field when it welcomes Ivy League foe Penn for a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday, March 23.
