Dartmouth men's lacrosse started off well but fell behind in the second half, ending the game against defending national champion and fifth-ranked Yale with a 20-8 loss at Reese Stadium on Saturday. Ben Martin led the team with his three goals and one assist for four points, while Harlan Smart had one goal and one helper, and five other players had one point apiece. In net, Daniel Hincks played the first 39 minutes, totaling 13 saves before making way for George Christopher, who had a season-high 11 stops in 20 minutes. Paul gave Dartmouth (2-7, 0-3 Ivy League) an early lead by opening scoring at 12:07 of the first quarter, but Yale responded three times in under two minutes to shift the advantage. Trailing by two, a pair of man-up tallies by Smart and Mike Connolly in the span of 64 seconds got the Green back in the game, if only for another minute before the Bulldogs pulled ahead again. With under two minutes to go, Martin tied things up heading to the second (4-4). Yale controlled the start of the second quarter, breaking the tie in the first minute before adding two more unanswered tallies to pull ahead by three (7-4). Goals by Martin and David Gallagher in 52 seconds got Dartmouth back within one, only to have Yale go on a 6-0 run to put some distance between the teams. Late in the quarter, Martin completed his hat trick and ended the Bulldogs' run (12-7). The home team opened the third with three consecutive tallies in the first four minutes. Dartmouth kept Yale out of the net for the next six minutes before the Bulldogs scored twice more in a six-second span (17-7). Christopher made his way into the game with 5:31 left in the quarter and came up big with a handful of saves all in a row to end the third. Having scored five unanswered markers in the third, Yale added two more in the early parts of the fourth quarter (19-7). George Prince ended the Green's draught midway through with his first of the game. Christopher and the Dartmouth defense kept Yale at bay for almost eight minutes before the Bulldogs put another on the board, the last goal of the game (20-8). The Big Green will play their final non-conference game of 2019 on Tuesday, April 9, when they host Hartford at 4 p.m.
