The Princeton women's lacrosse team came into its game Tuesday night against Villanova with the program's longest losing streak in nine years. Of course it was only two games, which, by the way, is quite a testament to the amazing consistency the team has had through the years. Still, two was plenty for the Tigers, who were stuck on that number for six days. Did this sit well with them? Well, it took Princeton's Kathryn Hallett just 14 seconds to score, leading to a solid effort from start to finish and ultimately a 15-6 win for the Tigers. Princeton had last lost three straight in the 2010 season, and before that you have to go back to the 2003 season to find another run of three straight losses. That season, of course, ended with the Tigers third NCAA championship. The win improved Princeton to 6-3 heading into a big Ivy League game Saturday at Dartmouth. Villanova, who won its Big East opener Saturday in Milwaukee over Marquette 15-13, fell to 7-5 overall. "This was a good game for us," said Princeton head coach Chris Sailer. "I don't think anyone on our team was pleased with knowing that we'd lost two straight, and we wanted to end that before it went any further. We came out ready and got a good win. Now we have to be ready for a quick turnaround and then a long bus ride for a big game." Princeton was led by a five-goal, six-point effort from Elizabeth George and a four-goal, five-point night from Kyla Sears. Marge Donovan had another huge game defensively with four caused turnovers and four ground balls, and goalie Sam Fish was superb, with 13 saves while allowing six goals. Hallett finished with two goals and one assist, which gave her 99 points for her career. Tess D'Orsi had a goal and three assists, and Allie Rogers, Izzy Mangan and Shannon Berry had a goal each. For Berry, it was the first goal of her career, and it came on a night when she also had two caused turnovers and a ground ball. Princeton scored the first two goals of the night before Villanova came back for the only tie of the game at 2-2. From there it became a 6-3 Tiger lead at intermission, and Princeton broke it open with three goals in three minutes early in the second half. As a team Princeton caused 22 turnovers, with three from D'Orsi and two each from Sears, Nonie Andersen, Mary Murphy and Maria Pansini, in addition to Donovan's four and Berry's two.
