Site: Ann Arbor, Mich. (U-M Lacrosse Stadium) Score: Michigan 16, Niagara 5 Records: U-M (12-0), Niagara (3-7) Next U-M Event: Saturday, March 30 -- vs. Johns Hopkins (U-M Lacrosse Stadium), Noon (TV: BTN) ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Behind hat tricks from Erin Daly and Maggie Kane, the No. 8 University of Michigan women's lacrosse team earned its 12th win of the season with a 16-5 victory over Niagara Monday (March 25) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium. Michigan is one of three undefeated teams left in the country. Juniors Molly Garrett, Lilly Grass and Nadine Stewart also turned in multi-goal performances for the Maize and Blue with two goals each, while four other Wolverines found the back of the cage against the Purple Eagles. Junior Catherine Granito tallied a career-best four points with three assists and one goal. Michigan was a perfect 4-for-4 in free position goals and kept Niagara to 2-for-5 in its attempts. In goal, senior Mira Shane picked up her ninth victory of the season, and sophomore Arielle Weissman saw 24 minutes of playing time in the cage, making two saves. Weissman also led the Wolvers with four ground balls, while Erin Garvey and Garrett had two caused turnover apiece. Michigan scored eight unanswered goals in the first 25 minutes of play, including two each from Grass, Garrett and Kane. The Purple Eagles found their first goal on a free position, but the Wolverines quickly answered on a Stewart opposite-post goal with 32 seconds left in the half, allowing U-M to take a 9-1 lead into halftime. Niagara and Michigan traded goals to start the second half before the Wolverines used Daly's third goal of the day and a second goal from Stewart to go up 13-3 and start the running clock. The Purple Eagles got out of the running-clock situation with two straight goals from Caroline Crump to bring Niagara within eight, 13-5, with 10:27 to go. The Wolverine offense was too much for NU as Kane added her third goal of the game before freshman Caroline Cullinan and Granito scored back-to-back goals to close out the U-M scoring with 2:16 to play. Michigan will resume Big Ten Conference play Saturday (March 30) when it welcomes Johns Hopkins to U-M Lacrosse Stadium for the front end of a doubleheader with the U-M men's team. First draw is set for noon with the game to be televised on BTN.
