The Basics • Score: #4 Northwestern-20, #19 Johns Hopkins-13 • Records: JHU (9-4, 1-2 B1G) • NU (9-3, 3-0 B1G) • Location: Baltimore, MD • Homewood Field • The Short Story: Fourth-ranked Northwestern used a late four-goal run to secure a 20-13 win over the host and 19th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse team Saturday morning in Big Ten action. How it Happened • Hopkins jumped out to a 6-2 lead, fueled by two goals each by redshirt senior Ellie McNulty and junior Lexi Souder. The teams traded goals to open the game and it was 1-1 at the 5:06-mark. Junior Maggie Schneidereith found a cutting Souder, who scored on a high-to-low shot to put Hopkins up 2-1 at 23:55. Just 30 seconds later however, the game was tied on a Lauren Gilbert free position goal. • Sophomore Aurora Cordingley put the Blue Jays back on top with a goal off the split-dodge 35 seconds after the Gilbert goal. McNulty made it a 4-2 game when she bounced a shot past Julie Krupnick at the 21:31-mark. Just over two minutes later, Schneidereith took a feed from senior Miranda Ibello and scored from the doorstep. Souder completed the four-goal spurt when she beat Krupnick on the run off the Schneidereith helper. • Northwestern answered with three straight goals, in a three-and-a-half minute span to pull within one at the half. Schneidereith opened the second half scoring when she dodged from behind and scored from in-tight just 1:24 in. Gilbert followed with back-to-back goals and the teams were tied at seven with 27:46 to go. • Cordingley responded with her second of the afternoon, going top-shelf off the dodge, to stake Hopkins ton 8-7 lead. Izzy Scane knotted the score at eight with a side-arm shot at the 23:11-mark to spark a six-goal Wildcat run that saw the visitors go up 13-8 in a matter of just seven minutes. • Schneidereith ended the run when she dodged from behind and beat Krupnick from the doorstep. The teams would trade goals over the ensuing seven minutes and Northwestern led 16-12 with 8:23 to play in the game. Meghan Duffy then converted a free position shot to ignite a four-goal run, in less than three minutes, as Northwestern went up 20-12. Senior Nicole DeMase closed out the scoring when she picked the bottom left corner from the right alley with 57 ticks on the clock. What it Means • Hopkins falls to 14-4 all-time against Northwester as the Wildcats have won three straight in the series. • Schneidereith finished with a game-high seven points (5g, 2a) which tied her career high. She is now tied for ninth in school Division I history with 159 career points. She is also tied for 13th with 98 career goals and needs just two to become the 13th player in school DI history with 100 career goals. • McNulty had a career-best 10 draw controls, which is one shy of the school single-game record. Senior Haley Crosson posted her fourth double-digit save performance of the season.
