COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team (3-1, 0-0 B1G) suffered its first loss of the season against No. 20 Notre Dame (4-0, 0-0 ACC) on Friday afternoon at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Senior Baley Parrott led the team with five goals, while junior Jill Rizzo denied 11 of Notre Dame’s 14 free-position attempts.
THE SHORT STORY
The first half was a battle between the Buckeyes and the Fighting Irish, with both teams trading the lead. Notre Dame went on a five-goal scoring run, jumping out to a 9-5 lead with six left in the first frame. Ohio State got one back, but trailed 10-6 at halftime. Ohio State wasn’t able to catch up in the second, and Notre Dame finished with a 19-10 win.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
• Notre Dame got on the board first, when Mollie Carr scored at 28:55 in the first half.
• Sophomore Ali Beekhuizen responded with a goal for the Buckeyes to even the score at 26:56.
• The Fighting Irish quickly took back the lead at 26:28, but Ohio State scored two goals in the span of a minute thanks to Parrott and junior Liza Hernandez – giving OSU its first lead of the game.
• Notre Dame scored two straight goals in less than two minutes to regain the lead.
• The Buckeyes added two goals of their own from Sara Dickinson and Clare Johnston, pulling ahead once more.
• Notre Dame then went on an 8-1 scoring run, building a 12-6 lead into the second half.
• Baley Parrott notched a hat trick at 18:17 in the second half, as well as scoring the final goal of the game for Ohio State at 6:25.
THIS AND THAT
• Parrott notched her fourth multi-point and multiple goal game of the season with her five goals. She extends her consecutive point streak to five games, dating back to last season.
• Hernandez registered five points on two goals and three assists and has scored a point in nine consecutive games. She also took all three of Ohio State’s free-position shots, converting on two.
• Sara Dickinson also has a point streak of five games, continuing from last season.
• Beekhuizen has tallied points in all four games this season.
• Rizzo assisted on Ohio State’s first goal of the game.
• Senior Caroline Mackrides led the team with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
