FINAL SCORE Saint Joseph's 8 (3-2) Monmouth 6 (1-3) PHILADELPHIA – The Monmouth University men's lacrosse team scored three straight times to end the third quarter, but Saint Joseph's held off the visiting Hawks in an 8-6 decision on Saturday afternoon at Sweeney Field. Facing an 8-3 deficit with 11 minutes remaining in the third, Monmouth scored three times, as Brock Anderson's second of the game started the run. Griffin Figel made it 8-5 and then assisted Cade Stratton's goal with eight seconds left in the period to send Monmouth into the fourth with momentum. Neither team was able to gain any traction offensively in the final 15 minutes as the score held at the two-goal margin. Monmouth's Noah Lode finished with 11 saves as Monmouth's defense held its third straight opponent to eight goals or less. NOTES AND QUOTES - Monmouth and Saint Joseph's have played every year since the start of the MU program. - Saint Joseph's leads the all-time series against Monmouth, 6-0. - Monmouth fell to 5-9 all-time against Northeast Conference opponents. - Monmouth dropped to 0-2 on the road in 2019. - Monmouth deployed the same starting lineup for the second straight game. - The Hawks wore their white helmets with midnight blue jerseys and shorts.
