Six different Hoyas scored multiple goals, while eight found the back of the net, as the No. 18/16 Georgetown University men's lacrosse team cruised to an 18-6 victory over visiting Furman on Tuesday afternoon at Cooper Field. Georgetown's 18 goals were the most since an 18-10 win over Vermont in 2015 and the 12 goal-differential was the largest margin of victory for the Blue & Gray since defeating Hobart 17-5 in 2001. Jake Carraway (Annapolis, Md. / St. Mary's) led the Hoyas with seven points (5G, 2A) while Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) (3G, 3A) and Robert Clark (Cooksville, Md. / McDonogh) (2G, 4A) both added six. Declan McDermott (Pleasantville, N.Y. / Pleasantville) tallied two goals and two assists for a career-high four points and both Austin McDonald (Olney, Md. / Georgetown Prep) and Jack Elders (Tiburon, Calif. / Redwood) scored two goals. Dylan Watson (Guelph, Ontario / The Hill School) had a goal and an assist while Kevin Petrillo (Herndon, Va. / Westfield) posted a lone goal. Defensively, Georgetown's defensive midfield was credited with all five caused turnovers on the day. Patrick Aslanian (Westfield, N.J. / Wesfield) and LSM Finn Dunne (Potomac, Md. / Georgetown Prep) had two each while Tucker Gillman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shady Side Academy / Avon Old Farms) recorded one. James Reilly (Berwyn, Pa. / Conestoga) continued to impress at the 'X', winning 11-of-17 (.647) faceoffs while fellow Keystone State native Cade Heverly (Ridley, Pa. / Ridley) went 4-for-6 (.667). Reilly led all Hoyas with five ground balls while Gibson Smith (Pelham, N.Y. / Pelham Memorial), the reigning BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, added four ground balls. In goal, Owen McElroy (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood [Avon Old Farms]) collected six saves and allowed just three goals in a span of 37:51 for his fourth victory of the season. Chris Brandau (Timonium, Md. / Boys' Latin) came on in relief and finished out the game with three saves. Both teams traded goals back and forth over the first five minutes of action to a 4-4 tie. Georgetown then scored three-straight goals, and four of the next five, to take a 6-3 lead after the opening period. The Hoyas took control from there, scoring 11 consecutive goals as part of a 12-goal run spanning three quarters until the Paladins found the back of the net with 6:11 remaining in the third to make it 17-4. Jarret Birch scored two goals for the Paladins while Anders Erickson added three assists. Alec Van de Bovenka collected 11 saves but gave up 17 of Furman's 18 goals on the day. Georgetown hits the road once again as it travels to take on Fairfield on Saturday, March 9 in Fairfield, Connecticut at 1 p.m.
