In its first meeting with a nationally-ranked team this season, Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse was upended by #16/18 Georgetown, 19-6, on Saturday afternoon at Rafferty Stadium. The Stags got goals from six different players in the effort, and Dylan Beckwith continued his strong season as a facilitator with three assists. Fairfield (2-3) saw Cole Barnard, Brendan Dreyer, Travis Ford, Frankie Labetti, Brian Reda and Taylor Strough all net goals today. Ford's goal extended his streak to five consecutive games with a marker while for Barnard and Dreyer, the tallies were the first of their respective collegiate careers. Strough added an assist to his goal to round out a multi-point day. While Beckwith did not rattle the game himself against the Hoyas, he handed out three assists to increase his team-leading totals to 15 assists and 25 total points this spring. He also shares the team-lead in goals with Ford at 10 apiece. Beckwith leads the CAA in assists per game (3.00) and ranks second in points per game (5.00). He also started the day in the top-10 nationally in both categories. After his quick goal off a restart in the third quarter today, Labetti is the first Stags' faceoff man to net two goals in a season since Michael Roe's two-goal, two-assist campaign from the 'X' in 2012. Labetti also turned in another solid day on the dot for Fairfield, posting a 14-for-24 mark with eight ground balls. He currently ranks third in the CAA in both faceoff win percentage (.558) and ground balls (7.80 per game). Liam Lynch added a pair of wins on the draw as the Stags went 16-of-29 to win the possession battle over the Hoyas. Adam Riestis also did his part in the possession game, collecting a career-best four ground balls in the midfield. Jake Tymon and Brian Cosgrove each scooped up two ground balls to help put the Stags back on the attack. In the cage, James Corasaniti came away with nine saves. The effort in front of him saw Labetti, Tymon, Kendall Keahey and Lucas Pedersen each force a Georgetown turnover. Nationally-ranked Georgetown (6-1) was fueled on the attack by four goals and five assists from Jake Carraway. Daniel Bucaro added five goals for the Hoyas as a part of a seven-point afternoon, and Lucas Wittenberg scored a goal with two assists from the midfield. Owen McElroy made six saves in the first three quarters to earn the win in the age with Chris Brandau finishing out the day and stopping the only two shots he faced. Up next, Fairfield hits the road on Tuesday, March 12 for a noon faceoff at Bryant. The Bulldogs, who dropped a 9-8 decision at Stony Brook today, are 2-4 on the season. The Stags return to Rafferty Stadium on Friday, March 15 for their inaugural meeting with first-year Division I program Utah. Faceoff under the lights is slated for 7 p.m. with all of the action set to broadcast live on the Lax Sports Network.
