Mercy opened the contest with the game's first two goals after back-to-back goals from Scorcia and MacSpadyen to make it 2-0 with 10:15 remaining in the first quarter. A Jake Bova goal made it 2-1 just under a minute later, but the Mavericks responded with three straight goals to take a 5-1 lead with 5:35 left in the opening quarter. Janavey started the rally and Chillianis followed with a man-up goal from MacSpadyen that made it 4-1. MacSpadyen ended the run with his second of the day and his 100th career goal.
Corey Auten made it 5-2 before Scorcia scored two more goals in the final minute of play in the quarter to give Mercy a 7-2 lead after one quarter of play.
Scorcia opened the scoring in the second quarter off an assist from MacSpadyen to make it 8-2 with 12:16 remaining in the quarter. Nearly ten minutes of scoreless action went by before Post scored at the 2:33 mark to make it 8-3 heading into halftime.
A Sean Olsen goal to start the third quarter cut the Mercy lead to 8-4 at the 12:18 mark. Janavey scored his second goal of the day with 5:28 remaining in the quarter to put Mercy up 9-4 at the end of the third quarter.
