Fifteen Paladins scored at least one goal and Furman poured on the offense, downing Hampton 26-6 on Sunday afternoon inside Paladin Stadium. The win moves the Paladins to 2-3 on the year, while the loss drops the Pirates to 0-1. David Williamson and Jimmy Harrington netted four goals each to lead the Paladins, while Carson Sorrells also turned in a hat trick with three goals. Seamus McFarland dished out three assists on the day, while McCain Wnek added two. Alec Van de Bovenkamp got the win between the pipes for Furman, making nine saves in 45:00. "I thought today was a good team effort," said Head Coach Richie Meade. "I thought everyone was focused on what they were trying to do. We did a good job of being pretty consistent throughout the game and pulled away from Hampton. But, I have to give them credit – they played hard the whole time and gave a great representation of their team and their university. I'm pleased with our team. I thought we accounted ourselves well." Williamson and Gus Pinsoneault gave the Paladins the quick 2-0 lead in the first, before Hampton cut the lead to one with just under 5:00 gone. Furman then went on a 7-0 scoring run over the next 18:00 of game time to push the lead to 9-1, before the Pirates netted an extra man opportunity to cut the lead to 9-2 with 4:40 remaining in the half. Furman closed the first half on a 3-0 scoring run, including a goal by Harrington as the horn sounded, to take a 12-2 lead into halftime. Furman pushed the lead to 13-2 to open the second half, before Hampton cut the lead to 13-3 at the 10:13 mark of the third. The Paladins netted back-to-back goals to push the lead to 15-3, before the Pirates cut it to nine at the 5:53 mark. Furman then used another 7-0 run over the next eight minutes of game time to push the lead to 22-4, before Elliott Johnson III ended the scoring streak and cut the lead to 22-5. Furman then netted four-straight goals before Hampton ended all scoring with a goal with 1:30 remaining, giving Furman the 26-6 victory. Furman is back in action on Saturday, March 2, hosting Utah inside Paladin Stadium for a 12:00 p.m. matchup.
