Despite a furious, four-goal fourth quarter rally, Utah downed Furman 8-7 on Saturday afternoon inside Paladin Stadium. The win moves the Utes to 3-3 on the year, while the loss drops the Paladins to 2-4. Utah used a 6-0 first half run to put the game away, as the Paladins out-scored the Utes 7-2 the rest of the way, including 4-0 in the fourth quarter. Furman was led by Jarrett Birch with two goals on the day, while five other Paladins added one. Alec Van de Bovenkamp played all 60:00 in goal, making five saves. Sage Reith was solid inside the face-off 'X' for the Paladins, winning on nine of 10 tries. Utah held the Paladins off the board during the game's first 15:00, while netting four goals before extending the lead to 6-0 in the first 8:00 of the second. Jarrett Birch netted his first goal of the day on an assist from William Holcomb to get the Paladins on the board with 3:15 to go, before Holcomb scored his first goal of the afternoon on an assist from Birch with 40 seconds remaining to cut the lead to 6-2 at halftime. The Utes pushed the lead to 7-2 to open the second half with a man-up opportunity, before Birch netted his second goal of the day to cut the lead to 7-3. Utah pushed the lead back to five at 8-3 with 6:30 to go in the third, before sending the game to the fourth quarter with the same score. After cutting the lead to 8-4 with 13:41 remaining, Furman continued to mount a fourth-quarter rally, scoring three-straight goals in less than a two-minute span to cut the lead to 8-7 with just under 4:00 to go. The Utes held off the comeback, however, taking the 8-7 victory. Furman is back in action on Tuesday, traveling to Washington, D.C., for a matchup with Georgetown.
