The Wesleyan University men's lacrosse team outscored Bowdoin 9-2 in the second half of a 13-4 victory on Saturday afternoon at Whittier Field. The Cardinals improve to 10-2 (6-2 NESCAC) with the win while the Polar Bears fall to 6-7 (2-6 NESCAC). Game Highlights The teams played a tight first half before the Cardinals used a big third quarter surge to put the game out of reach. The Cardinals scored the first two goals of the game but Bowdoin replied with a pair to tie the contest at 2-2 with 8:46 left in the first period. Ronan Jacoby gave the Cardinals a 3-2 lead with 7:07 left in the first quarter and Tom Martello scored the only goal of the second frame to give Wesleyan a 4-2 advantage at the break. Bowdoin trimmed the lead to a single goal, 4-3, on a Jake Crossman goal to open the second half, but Wesleyan answered with a pair of tallies to push the lead back to three goals, 6-3, on a Corey Aviles tally at 11:40. The Polar Bears scored their final goal of the game at 7:07 of the third quarter, drawing to within 6-4 on a goal by Brad Ingersoll. Wesleyan took command from there, scoring three times in the final 1:27 of the third quarter to push the lead to 9-4. The run continued with two more goals in the first 2:46 of the fourth frame from Ronan Jacoby to extend the advantage to 11-4 en route to the victory. By The Numbers Ronan Jacoby finished with four goals and two assists for the Cardinals while Colin Uyeki and Tom Martello had three apiece. Brad Ingersoll led Bowdoin with a pair of goals while Donal Mullane had three assists for the Polar Bears. Wesleyan's Otto Bohan made 15 saves in goal for the Cardinals in 56:30 of play before giving way to Colin Haney, who stopped two shots in the final 3:30. Bowdoin's Michael Covell made eight saves for the Polar Bears. Wesleyan held a 42-33 edge in shots and won 13-20 on the faceoff dot, thanks in great part to a 6-8 performance by Ben Shapiro. Up Next The Polar Bears will return to action next Saturday as they head to Williams for a 1:00 p.m. match. Wesleyan will host Hamilton next Saturday at noon.
