With four unanswered goals late in the second half from Ephs Cory Lund, Jake Haase and Brendan Hoffman, Williams came out on top victorious as they head into their final regular season game next Wednesday. The Williams College Ephs (12-2/7-2 NESCAC) defeated the Bowdoin College Polar Bears (6-8/2-7 NESCAC) 17-9 in today's match-up at Farley-Lamb Field on the campus of Williams College. Williams took control early on after a goal just eight seconds into the game from a faceoff win and shot from Eph Alex Kitt. At 10:19, Bowdoin scored their first goal of the game on an empty goal after a score from Jeff Powers unassisted to tie the game. With forty-five seconds left in the quarter, Kevin Stump netted a goal to give the Ephs their first lead of the day. At the end of the first, Williams was up 2 – 1. At 13:54, Bowdoin scored after a spin dodge and shot from Nick Iznaga to tie the game at 2 – 2. Two minutes later, Bowdoin scored and took the lead with a shot and score from Nick Iznaga unassisted to give the Polar Bears the lead. At 8:42, Williams tied the game for the third time after a goal from Tim Saffold and an assist from Cory Lund. To counter, Bowdoin scored two-straight goals from Pat White and Jeff Powers to give the Polar Bears a 5 – 3 lead. With six minutes left in the half, Williams answered back with a much-needed score from Cory Lund off a great snipe after an assist from Jake Haase. Eight seconds after a Williams timeout, Eph Brendan Hoffman scored from ten yards out after a feed from Calvin Collins. At 3:01, Cory Lund slam-dunked the ball which was soon complimented with a dunk from Jake Haase to give the Ephs a 7 – 5 lead going into halftime. Williams scored the first goal of the quarter at 13:16 when Jake Haase put one between the legs of Bowdoin's goalie and lengthened the Eph lead to three scores. Seven minutes later, Eph Noah McCoy scored and continued the Williams six-score streak to bring the game to 9 – 5. At 5:33, Jared Strauss ripped a shot and scored unassisted to give the Ephs a great cushion from the offense for the remainder of the game. Two minutes later, Cory Lund dunked the ball in the net to bring the game to 11 – 5 to set the game for the final quarter. Bowdoin broke the Williams eight-score streak at 13:10 when Polar Bear Nick Iznaga netted his third goal of the game on a man-up opportunity. Williams soon answered back two minutes later when Brendan Hoffman netted his second goal of the game unassisted to bring the game to 12 – 6. Fifteen seconds later, Brian Greenberg netted a goal on the run with a feed from Kevin Stump to give the Ephs a seven-score lead. A short-while after, Jake Haase scored his third goal of the game at 10:09 with an assist from John Hincks. At 8:55, LSM Rock Stewart dodged from the restraining line and scored unassisted to bring the lead to eleven goals. Five minutes later, Ryan Gibbs netted a goal unassisted off of a dodge from the goal-line to bring the game to 16 – 6. With two minutes to go, Polar Bear Zach Chandler scored to bring the deficit to ten goals. Ten seconds later, Bowdoin scored their second-straight goal after Donal Mullane dumped one in the net which was followed by another Bowdoin goal netted by Jeff Powers with fifty-six seconds left. With four seconds left in the game, Eph freshman Jack Sercu scored the last goal of the game unassisted. Williams defeated Bowdoin 17 – 9. The Ephs used two goalies today. Harry Gahagan had 10 saves with 55 minutes of play while Will Bock had one save with five minutes of play. The Polar Bears used one goalie this game. Michael Covell had seven saves. The Polar Bears were led by Nick Iznaga with three goals and one assist along with Jeff powers with three goals. They were followed by Donal Mullane with one goal and two assists. The Ephs were led by Cory Lund and Jake Haase with three goals and two assists each. They were followed by Brendan Hoffman with two goals. Eph head coach George McCormack stated, "Today was a great display of determination from our team. I'm really happy for our seniors and looking forward to our last home game against a tough Middlebury squad." The Ephs return to action this Wednesday, April 24th home when they play Middlebury College, taking on the Panthers in a NESCAC match-up at 6pm. Bowdoin will next play against Tufts University home in a match-up on Wednesday April 24th, taking on the Jumbos at 7pm as well.
