The Cabrini men's lacrosse team made a statement today, as the No. 8 Cavaliers opened their 2019 season with a resounding 19-3 victory over Haverford College at Edith Robb Dixon Field. Eleven Cavaliers combined for the team's 27 points in the win. Senior Jordan Krug led the way with six goals, including a string of four consecutive goals in the third quarter, and an assist. Junior Tyler Kostack paired three goals and three helpers, while senior Timmy Brooks found the back of the net three times. Junior Tommy DeLuca paced the defensive effort with four caused turnovers and five ground balls, while senior Sean Wagner, juniors Robert Cressman and Kyle Myers forced two miscues each. Sophomore Luke McCallion went 12-18 at the faceoff spot and matched DeLuca's five ground balls, one more than Brooks and sophomore Nick Werner. Senior goaltender Riley White earned the victory, tallying all five of Cabrini's saves. The Cavaliers took a few minutes to find their legs in today's season opener and led just 2-1 in the final minute of the opening period. Senior Bill Morgan and Brooks scored unassisted goals in the final 13 seconds of the period, sparking the team to seven unanswered goals. Both added their second goals of the day in the second quarter, joining junior Matt LoParo and Kostack on the score sheet. Kostack netted both of his goals in the stanza in the final 2:05, sending Cabrini into the half with a comfortable 9-1 lead. The Fords struck first in the third before Krug made his mark on the game. The senior posted four straight goals, including both man-up and man-down goals, to push the lead to 13-2. DeLuca also made an impact on the offensive side in the third, as the junior caused a turnover, scooped the ground balls and sprinted to the net to score his first career goal. Krug added his final two goals in a two minute span, closing the third and opening the fourth quarters. Brooks completed his hat trick at the 12:46 mark, before juniors Mike Gerzabek and Tyler Moschella closed the scoring. The Blue and White outshot the Fords 60-27, including 37-8 in shots on goal, and won 17 of the game's 26 faceoffs. Defensively, Cabrini fought off seven man-down situations and pressured Haverford into 30 turnovers. Senior Dylan Slack led the Fords with 18 saves, while classmate Jake Ephron paired three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Sophomore Anthony Vizzoni joined freshmen Wyatt Feinberg and Blake Brinster with goals for Haverford. The Cavaliers will return to action next Saturday, as they open a string of three consecutive road games at No. 20 Lynchburg (1-1). Cabrini will meet the Hornets at 1pm in Lynchburg, VA.
