Farley-Lamb Field was electric this afternoon as the Williams College Ephs got into position to face off with the Trinity College Bantams. On the opening face-off, junior LSM Rock Stewart gained possession of the loose ball, ran down the field towards the Bantam goal and ripped a shot from far out with his long stick to give the Ephs their first score of the game along with momentum for a five-goal streak that would secure their first win of the season. The Williams College Ephs (1-1/ 1-1 NESCAC) defeated the Trinity College Bantams (1-1/ 0-1 NESCAC) 18-12 in today's match-up at Farley-Lamb field on the campus of Williams College. The Williams College Ephs took control of the game early on from the opening face-off, translating to the first goal of the game scored by junior LSM Rock Stewart unassisted at 14:41. Two minutes later, Williams mid-fielder Brendan Hoffman found his first score of the game with a rip from 15 yards out. A plethora of Ephs goals soon ensued with John Hincks scoring two straight goals and one from Kevin Stump to give Williams a five-score lead. Shortly after, Trinity answered back with a goal in the final minute of the first quarter. With seventeen seconds left in the quarter, Brendan Hoffman dumped the ball in the net while drawing a penalty. The score at the end of the first quarter was Williams 6 – Trinity 1 with the Ephs having a man-up advantage going into the second. Williams came out with a bang early in the start of the second quarter with possession and a goal by sophomore Cory Lund at 14:29. Trinity soon countered with a goal off a quick face-off exchange by Scott Morgan. Williams continued with the same pace of play that found success in the first quarter and went on a four-goal streak by Ephs Brendan Hoffman, Calvin Collins, Jake Haase and Matthew Seligson to bring the game to 11 – 2 with Williams in the lead. This streak was broken up by a Bantam goal unassisted from Ben Knaus. A goal-for-goal match soon arose with Eph Cory Lund scoring at 7:08 which was soon met with two Bantam goals by Max DeLamater assisted by Ben Ferrucci and Morty Fearey assisted by Ben Knaus. Williams then capitalized on a man-up opportunity and with 17 seconds left in the first half, Kevin Stump scored for the Ephs. Williams was up 13-5 at halftime. The Ephs took to the field in the second half with the same mentality that gave them the lead and scored at 11:51 as Kevin Stump took a shot from five yards out after receiving a quick feed from John Hincks. Trinity answered back with their first goal of the second half after a score from Luke Valentino assisted by Ben Knaus with the Ephs up 14-6. Soon after, Williams LSM Rock Stewart found his second goal of the game after scoring on a ground ball pickup at 9:14. Trinity answered back less than a minute later with two straight scores from Bantam attackmen Ben Knaus and Connor McCulloch to bring the score to 15-8. Williams took control of the fourth quarter early on with sophomore Cory Lund slam-dunking the ball in the net after an assist by Jake Haase. Trinity countered at 9:04 with a goal unassisted from Sean Sperzel. After great defense displayed by both teams, Williams broke the stalemate with a goal at 5:35 from Brendan Hoffman off of a dodge from the restraining line. With two minutes left in the game, John Hincks scored another goal to bring the game to 18-9. The Bantams answered back less than thirty seconds later with a score from Connor McCulloch, assisted by Drew Kozub. Less than a minute later, Trinity scored back-to-back goals by Connor McCulloch and Scott Morgan to bring down the Williams lead to six scores. The streak gave the Bantams momentum going into the final minutes of the quarter, but it wasn't enough to top the Ephs. Williams defeated Trinity 18-12. The Ephs used one goalie, Harry Gahagan, who finished with 12 saves between the pipes. The Bantams used two goalies this afternoon. ­­­Greg Barletta made 11 saves with 43 minutes of play and Brady Burke made one save with 17 minutes of play. The Bantams were led by ­­­­­Connor McCulloch with three goals. He was followed by Ben Knaus with two goals and three assists and Scott Morgan with two scores. The Ephs were led by Brendan Hoffman with four goals and two assists. He was followed by ­­­­Cory Lund with three goals and one assist, John Hincks with three goals and two assists, Kevin Stump with three goals and Rock Stewart with two goals. Other Eph scorers were Calvin Collins, Matthew Seligson and Jake Haase. Eph head coach George McCormack stated, "I'm proud of our team playing strong this afternoon. We're always happy to get a conference win as they are hard to come by". The Ephs return to action home at Farley-Lamb Field on Friday March 15th when they will play Union College, taking on the Dutchmen at 6pm. The Trinity College Bantams will play home in a match-up against Wooster on Wednesday March 13th at 7pm
