The Connecticut College men's lacrosse team fell to Williams by an 18-9 score on Sunday afternoon at Silfen Field. Playing stifling defense, Williams (3-1, NESCAC 2-1) outscored the Camels, 2-0, in the opening quarter and burst out to a 4-0 advantage by tallying two more goals in the early stages of the second frame. Cory Lund broke a scoreless deadlock on a man-up opportunity with 7:18 left in the first quarter and completed a natural hat trick at the 14-minute mark of the second with two assists coming from Jake Haase. The Camels fought back by scoring four of the next five goals, beginning by cashing in on their first EMO when junior Jack Rutter (Madison, N.J.) finished a pass from senior PJ Kelleher (Walpole, Mass.) at 8:44. But after senior Jordan Foster (Las Vegas, Nev.) netted an unassisted marker to make it 5-4 with 3:34 left, Williams tallied three straight to end the half and most notably got a tally from Brendan Hoffman with just 20 seconds remaining to move ahead by an 8-4 score entering the break. Starting the half with the ball on a man-up opportunity, Calvin Collins finished a pass from Hoffman to keep the Ephs in control of the contest. Lund then added back-to-back goals just 1:13 apart to make it 11-4, and the hosts would eventually extend their lead to as many as 11 before coming away with a nine-goal win. Lund and Haase connected four times and combined for 16 points to lead the way for Williams, which outshot the Camels by a 47-34 margin, won 21 of 30 faceoffs, and had a commanding 36-19 advantage in ground balls. Haase recorded seven points on two goals and five assists, while Lund had a game-high eight goals and one helper. Alex Kitt won 12 of 18 faceoffs and picked up eight ground balls, while Harry Gahagan made 10 saves between the posts before being relieved midway through the fourth quarter. Connecticut College (2-3, NESCAC 0-3), which converted on all three of its man-up chances, was paced by junior Sean Smith (Pasadena, Calif.) and Kelleher. Smith netted a hat trick, while Kelleher contributed two goals and three assists. Senior TJ Noonan (Wellesley, Mass.) and junior Courtney Morgan (South Windsor, Conn.) each picked up three ground balls and caused a turnover defensively, and goalies Colin Smith (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) and Jameson Hill (Wilton, Conn.) combined to make 13 stops. The Camels will return to action at Silfen Field when they host the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
