A fourth-quarter surge by No. 13 High Point (4-0) lifted the Panthers over the No. 12 Virginia Cavaliers (1-2) on Monday night, 14-13, at Klöckner Stadium. UVA entered the final period with a 12-11 lead before High Point reeled off three-straight goals to take a 14-12 lead with 2:02 left to play. Jeff Conner brought UVA to within one goal, 14-13, with 1:04 left to play. HPU won the ensuing faceoff and tried to kill the clock. UVA goalie Alex Rode forced a turnover and the Cavaliers had a ch UVA STAT LEADERS • A Matt Moore 3 goals, 4 assists • A Ian Laviano 4 goals • M Dox Aitken 2 goals • LSM Jared Conners 1 GB, 5 CTs NOTES • A Michael Kraus extended his active-point scoring streak to 35 games, which is tied for No. 3 in the nation heading into this weekend's play. • M Dox Aitken scored two goals, tying Andy Kraus (75) for No. 9 all-time at UVA in career goals for a midfielder. • Aitken also became the 11th Cavalier midfielder to reach 100 career points. He is currently No. 11 all-time at UVA among Cavalier midfielders with 100 career points. FROM THE LOCKER ROOM "Let's first give credit to the High Point goalie. What a fantastic performance all game with 17 saves. Especially in the fourth quarter he shut the door on us for the most part, we couldn't sneak one by him. I do think we rushed things. I just told my team that we took some home run swings, when we can only score one goal at a time. This isn't baseball with grand slams. Trust the offense, trust Coach Kirwan. We also don't want to decrease the creativity of our men. We've allowed our men to play fast and enjoy competing, throwing the ball, and taking chances. But there were, you were right, some where we forced the issue a little too early." – Lars Tiffany UP NEXT Virginia hits the road on Saturday when the Cavaliers head to No. 19 Princeton. Faceoff is set for 12 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+, a subscription-based entity.ance for one more play. UVA attackman Matt Moore unleashed a shot with a couple seconds left, but High Point goalie Tim Troutner made his 17th save of the game to end the HPU win. The win for the Panthers is their second this season against an ACC team. They won at then-No. 2 Duke on Feb 6, 13-9. HOW IT HAPPENED For the third game in a row UVA scored first, but then found itself in a hole. With a 3-0 lead over the Panthers, HPU responded by scoring five goals in a row to take a 5-3 lead at 9:10 in the second quarter. UVA used a 4-2 run to tie the game, 7-7, heading into the intermission. Grayson Sallade scored his first career goal to start the spurt. Ian Laviano scored twice and Dox Aitken tallied on goal during the run.
