Connecticut College's Jack Rutter scored a career-high seven goals and the Camels posted a 12-9 NESCAC win against the Hamilton College Continentals at Hamilton's Steuben Field on Saturday afternoon. Henry Hill '19 guided Hamilton (3-8, 1-8 NESCAC) with three goals and added three ground balls. Zach Larsen '19 recorded two goals, one assist and two ground balls, and Ben Gardner '21 dished out two assists and caused two turnovers. Max Scheidl '21 stopped 11 of 23 shots on goal. Zach Kleinbaum '19 led the defense with three caused turnovers, and Hauken Washington '22 caused two turnovers. Washington and Hagen Wunderle '21 both notched the first goals of their Hamilton careers. Rutter was one of four Camels (4-9, 1-8) that recorded multiple points. Jordan Foster and PJ Kelleher both scored twice and Kelleher added one assist. Winston Palmeri had two assists, and Rutter added nine ground balls and two caused turnovers. Colin Smith made a personal-best 19 saves. Toby Almeida won 18 of 25 faceoffs and Zack Gustafson caused three turnovers. TJ Noonan added five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Hamilton jumped out to a 1-0 lead less than one minute into the contest. The Continentals moved the ball around the back of the net to Hill out front who ripped a shot from 10 yards out into the upper-right corner of the goal. The Camels responded with two straight goals at 13:33 and 10:40 to take a 2-1 lead. Larsen returned the lead to Hamilton with back-to-back goals. Gardner gathered the ball behind the net and found Larsen sprinting towards the front of the goal for a one-timer into the nylon at 10:02, and less than two minutes later Chad Morse '19 passed to Larsen in a similar fashion for the 3-2 edge. Conn. College's Rutter scored his first of the contest with 5:52 left in the first quarter to tie the game 3-3 at the first break, and he scored again at 10:18 in the second to give the Camels a 4-3 advantage. Chris Conley '20 tied the game 4-4 when he controlled the ball at the top of the attack area, deked out his defender and whipped the ball into the lower corner from 15 yards out at 8:59 in the second. Rutter scored three of Conn. College's next four goals, spanning from 5:53 in the second to 14:27 in the third, as the Camels doubled its lead at 8-4. The Continentals came back with three unanswered goals in the third. Clay McCollum '19 got Hamilton within one goal at 8-7 when he recorded the 81st goal and 102nd point of his career with 7:50 on the clock, but Rutter scored two more unassisted goals to extend Conn. College's lead to 10-7 going into the final quarter. Again, Hamilton got within one goal when Wunderle and Hill scored consecutively at 11:02 and 4:50 in the fourth, cutting into the Camels' 10-9 lead. Conn. College extinguished the Continentals' comeback attempt with goals from Sean Smith and Kelleher to conclude the contest. Hamilton travels to Vassar College for a non-conference game on Wednesday, April 17 at 5 p.m.
