FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Playing at home for the first time in 2019, the Sacred Heart men's lacrosse team suffered a 16-11 loss at the hands of Boston University on Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers drop to 1-2 on the season with the loss while the Terriers jump to 3-1. SCORE Boston Univ. 16 / Sacred Heart 11 RECORDS Sacred Heart (1-2) / Boston Univ. (3-1) LOCATION Campus Field / Fairfield, CT First Half (12-4 BU) The Pioneers jumped out to an early lead as senior defender Landon Kramer picked up a ground ball, ran in on the cage and fired one past Terrier goalkeeper Joe McSorley Later in the first quarter, Max Tuttle scored his first of the day to even the score at 2-2 and followed with a dish to Joe Saggese to again tie the score at 3-3 Despite the initial back-and-forth play, the game was decided over the next 15+ minutes as Boston Univ. rattled off a 9-0 run to build a 12-3 lead with 4:10 remaining in the second quarter Chris Gray for the Terriers was all over the field, scoring twice and assisting on three more to account for five of the nine goals for Boston Univ. in the 9-0 scoring spree Second Half (16-11 BU) Trailing by eight to start the second half, the Terriers sealed the win, scoring three of the first four goals in the third quarter to take a commanding 15-5 lead midway through the third quarter SHU strung together some steady offense in the second half, outscoring the Terriers 6-1 over the final 16:52 of play Saggese completed his hat trick with a man-down goal early in the fourth quarter while Jaden Walcot notched the first hat trick of his career with a man-up goal late in the fourth NOTES Tuttle led the way offensively for the Pioneers, finishing the day with four points on two goal and two assists to go along with five ground balls Saggese (three goals) recorded his second hat trick through three games in 2019 After posting six goals through 10 games last season, Walcot already has four tallies through three games in 2019 Joseph Cipoletti led the Pioneer defensively, racking up six ground balls and a game-high three caused turnovers to go along with two assists The two-assist game marked the first career multi-point game for the senior Cipoletti Brooks Dutton made 11 saves in the cage for the Pioneers Shots were even 42-42 between the two sides while SHU won the turnover battle 24-16 The Terriers owned a commanding 22-7 lead in the game in faceoff wins NEXT GAME The Pioneers renew a series against literal crosstown foe Fairfield on Saturday afternoon with play set to begin at 1 PM. SHU is 2-1 all-time against the Stags but these two sides haven't faced one another since the 2005 season.
