FINAL SCORE Monmouth 9 (1-2) Wagner 7 (1-3) WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Monmouth University men's lacrosse team outscored Wagner 7-2 after halftime and erased a three-goal deficit in a 9-7 victory on Tuesday afternoon at Kessler Stadium. Zach Clemente scored three of his career-high four goals in the third quarter to help Monmouth level the score at six heading into the fourth. Wagner regained the lead with 10 minutes to play before Monmouth scored the final three goals of the game. Cade Stratton tied the score with his second goal of the day at 8:35, before Jake Willson and Garrett Klurman each scored 18 seconds apart with four minutes to go. Noah Lode finished with 10 saves as Monmouth's defense held its second straight opponent to single digits. NOTES AND QUOTES "It felt good to get our first win of the season after a tough road game this past weekend. We made some mistakes, missed opportunities and a good first half by Wagner put us in a little bit of a hole at halftime. NUMBERS CRUNCH - Zach Clemente set a new career-high with four goals. It was his second-career hat trick and seventh multi-goal game. Clemente has six goals on the year and increased his career goals total to 22. - Clemente became the eighth different Monmouth player to score four goals in one game. - Cade Stratton scored the first two goals of his career. - Jake Willson's game winner was his second game-winning goal of his career and his sixth career goal. - Willson, Brock Anderson and Garrett Klurman each scored their first goals of the season. Klurman's was the first of his freshman season, while Anderson got his sixth-career goal. - Eamon Campbell contributed two assists. Campbell has four assists on the year and 65 points for his career. - Campbell's 65 points rank fifth in Monmouth history as he passed Eric Berger '17 on the list. - Griffin Figel assisted Jake Willson's game-winning goal. Figel now has 62 points in his career. - Rudy Beck and Gordon Phillips each added assists in the win. Phillips led the Hawks with four ground balls and tied a career high with three caused turnovers. - Noah Lode tallied 10 saves in cage for the Hawks. It was Lode's 12th straight and 15th career double-digit save effort. UP NEXT Monmouth travels to Philadelphia for a Saturday afternoon matchup with Saint Joseph's. Opening faceoff is set for 3 p.m.
