Just three days after landing on the short side of an 8-4 loss to Rutgers, Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse found its offensive groove on Tuesday afternoon in a 21-15 victory over visiting Siena on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. Dylan Beckwith set a new personal-best and a Rafferty Stadium venue record with nine points in the win. "It's been a challenging couple of days for the guys in our locker room," said Head Coach Andy Copelan. "I think you saw a pretty motivated group of guys out there today, and they were able to get it done." Beckwith scored a career-high five goals and dished out four assists to accumulate his nine points – topping the previous mark of eight points reached several times by Stags as well as visiting players in the history of the facility (2015-present). Beckwith also netted the most points in any game by a Stag since Travis Nelson's 10 points – matching the program single-game record – in a win over Harvard in 2007. On the season, Beckwith leads the Stags in all three scoring categories with 10 goals, 12 assists and 22 points. "It's a good feeling to play well, but it's not about the points. As long as someone scores a goal, that's all that matters to me," Beckwith said. As a team, Fairfield (2-2) also tied the Rafferty Stadium record with 21 goals – the most scored by a Fairfield team in any game since burying a program-record 25 goals in a win over Manhattan in 1998. Today's effort also set the Rafferty Stadium facility mark for combined goals as the Stags and Saints amassed 36 total markers in 60 minutes of action. "Twenty-one goals is a lot of scoring in our sport right now. If you get to that number, you're probably going to win," noted Copelan. "I'm proud of the guys for their response today after laying an egg against Rutgers where we only put up four. That was a tough pill to swallow, but I thought that on that side of the ball, we responded well today." Travis Ford matched Beckwith's goal output with a career-high five goals of his own. Ford has scored multiple goals in three consecutive games, ranking second on the Stags behind Beckwith nine markers. In total, four Stags registered at least five points. Taylor Strough recorded his third career hat trick and handed out two assists while Brian Reda scored a goal with four helpers. Five points in the contest marked new career highs for both players. Patrick Drake and Brendan Quinn added matching statlines of two goals and one assist apiece. Three Stags notched the first points of their respective careers. Kyle Borda and Brian Cosgrove each scored a goal and posted an assist, and Cooper Mazurczak sent home his first career goal. In addition to the "pole goals" from Cosgrove and Mazurczak, Kendall Keahey got into the act for the second straight contest with an assist from his defensive midfielder position to round out Fairfield's torrid scoring pace on the day. Career days were not limited to the attack today as Liam Lynch had his best outing at the faceoff X. The junior was 13-of-18 on the draw and came away with six ground balls. Frankie Labetti was 9-of-18 with six ground balls of his own, and Will Kirshner added a win on the dot as the Stags held a 23-of-39 advantage on the restart. Defensively, Cosgrove, Keahey and Tyler Wuchte each came away with three ground balls. Beckwith helped fuel the Stags' ride with five ground balls and three caused turnovers from the attack position. James Corasaniti made nine saves with two ground balls in the cage. Three players had five-point days to lead the Siena (1-2) scoring effort: Mike Reilly (5g), Jack Kiernan (3g, 2a) and Keenan Cook (2g, 3a). Aaron Lewis made nine saves in goal for the Saints. Up next, Fairfield challenges its first nationally-ranked opponent of the spring and wraps up its three-game homestand on Saturday, March 9 at 1 p.m. at Rafferty Stadium against #16/18 Georgetown. The Stags will be meeting their fellow Jesuit squad for the first time since 2016 – a 13-9 win for Fairfield in Washington, D.C.
