RIT jumped out to a big lead late in the first half, as the Skidmore College men's lacrosse team dropped a 20-4 decision to the second-ranked Tigers, in Liberty League action at Wachenheim Field Saturday afternoon. Skidmore drops to 3-9 overall and 0-6 in conference action. RIT remains an undefeated 6-0 in league games and 13-1 overall. The Thoroughbreds kept it close early with the Tigers in the first quarter. After RIT began the game with two goals, Eric Megnia made the Tigers pay with a man-up goal at 8:52. The goal was assisted by Ward Mahoney and Skidmore trailed 2-1. RIT scored 50 seconds later on a Ryan Barnable tally, but Skidmore responded two minutes later with an unassisted effort by Mahoney, trailing 3-2. It was as close as the Thoroughbreds would get as RIT, ranked second in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) polls, pulled ahead with seven straight goals. Hudson Miller broke the run with an unassisted goal at the 3:59 mark. A couple minutes later, with Skidmore on the break, Mahoney made a great individual effort, snaking through a few RIT defenders from end-to-end on his second goal of the game. The Tigers finished the first half with a goal, leading 11-4. Skidmore had a hard time solving the Tiger defense in the second half, as the Tigers outscored the Thoroughbreds by a 9-0 margin for the 20-4 final. Mahoney led the Thoroughbreds with three points, scoring two goals and adding an assist. Megnia and Miller tallied the other goals. Alex Miller tallied four ground balls and went 3-for-5 on faceoffs. Logan Hart caused three turnovers on the defensive end. Tim Rahill put in a valiant effort in goal, tallying a Skidmore-record 28 saves. He also added six ground balls and caused one turnover. Benjamin Kacher finished the game, playing the final 4:53 of regulation. Ryan Barnable and Damon Currie each tallied six points (three goals, three assists) to lead the Tiger offense. Dawson Tait added a trio of goals and one assist. Walker Hare made 15 saves in 38:38, securing the victory. Holden McDonald made six saves in the final 21:22. RIT outshot Skidmore by a 61-39 margin. Skidmore caused 14 RIT turnovers and went 18-for-24 in clearing opportunities. The Thoroughbreds also went 1-for-3 with the extra man. Skidmore will host its final non-league contest of the season, taking on Clark University in a make-up game from late February. This contest will begin at 6 p.m. on April 17.
