Twelve Brewers were celebrated at the start of the day for the Vassar College men's lacrosse team before the Brewers dropped an 8-5 decision in Liberty League Conference play against the Union College Dutchmen inside Weinberg Field, Saturday afternoon. The game opened quick with the Dutchmen going on offense scoring their first goal in less than one minute in the first quarter. Union added another goal just over four minutes later. A Vassar faceoff win by Matthew Lowrey garnered a strong shot on net, though the Dutchmen goalie made the save. Union would add one more goal in before Vassar would get on the board. With just over four minutes on the clock, a feed from Michael Mullen to Spencer Duryee would hit the back of the net. A shot from Tomas Meade with 15 seconds left in the quarter just barely hit the post for Vassar, triggering a clear attempt for Union followed by their fourth goal of the game. The Brewers caused one turnover, and went 5-6 on face-offs in the quarter. Erik Mikelinich earned four saves. The second quarter saw shots from both teams. At 6:42, Mullen scored his second goal of the game with a pass across the face of the net from Tommy Van Pelt. Union drew the first penalty of the game on a hold with just over five minutes left. The second half of the game started with Union man-up on a Vassar penalty and Matt Boyd going between the posts for the Brewers. A goal from Drew Adams seven minutes into the third quarter followed by a Lowery faceoff win to Mullen and the score was even at four. However, Union edged out a goal to regain the advantage two minutes later. At 2:55, Mullen scored the Brewers equalizer on a look from Nick Diamond behind the net. The Dutchmen would take back the lead before the end of the quarter. Union would widen its lead in the fourth quarter with goals in the seventh minute and the 12th minute. Mullen led Vassar's offense with four goals and two ground balls. Lowery scooped up six ground ball and Stefan Fleps five. Mikelinich and Boyd split the time in the net, going 30 minutes each.
