Third-ranked Rochester Institute of Technology jumped to a 5-0 lead and went on to defeat 11th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan in the season opener for both teams on Sunday at Selby Stadium. The Tigers took the lead when Ryan Barnable fed Cam Isaac for a score in the opening minute of the contest, then added to the lead when Barnable scored at the 10:20 mark of the first quarter. Scores by Luke Henderson, Dawson Tait, and Cameron Gebhardt increased the margin to 5-0. Freshman defenseman Miles Rathell (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) put the Bishops on the scoreboard with 4:17 left in the period, but RIT answered with a pair of goals by Quinn Commandant and another by Tait. Senior attacker Max Tennant (Englewood, Colo./Cherry Creek) wrapped up the first-quarter scoring with a man-up goal, courtesy of a feed from senior attacker Steven Hildebrand (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga). Freshman midfielder Colin Greene (Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek) and senior attacker Jack Jeschke (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) tallied second-quarter goals for Ohio Wesleyan, and when Tennant and junior midfielder Andrew Mikes (Columbus/Upper Arlington) closed out the second quarter with goals, Ohio Wesleyan had closed to within 13-6 with 30 minutes to play, but the Bishops would not come closer than that 7-goal margin. Tennant led the Bishops with 3 goals, while Jeschke finished with 2. Sophomore Zach Brasser (Westport, Conn./Millbrook (N.Y.) School) was credited with 16 saves during the first half and junior Joey Sichenzia (Sayville, N.Y.) stopped 5 shots during the second half. Barnable finished with 2 goals and 4 assists for the Tigers, while Isaac scored 4 goals. Walker Hare had 5 saves and Holden McDonald made 2 save for RIT.
