For the second straight season, the Seton Hill men's lacrosse team hosted the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament, and on Thursday afternoon met fourth seed Walsh in the first semifinal. The Griffins raced to an 8-2 halftime lead and never looked back in a 17-6 win over Walsh. SHU improves to 12-3 on the season. Bennett Johnson got the Griffins on the scoreboard 1:02 into the contest. Just 44 seconds later, Dan Rupert made it 2-0. Two goals from Ryan Manbeck closed out the first quarter scoring and SHU took a 4-0 lead into the second quarter. Collin Mitchell opened the scoring for the Griffins at the 12:44 mark of the second quarter. After a Walsh goal, the Griffins scored 35 seconds apart for a 7-1 advantage. Johnson and Rupert each scored for the Griffins. Brett Craig scored with 5:30 to play in the half as SHU took a 8-2 lead into the halftime break. Two straight goals from Logan Maloni, just eight seconds apart got the Griffins going early in the third quarter. After a Walsh goal with just over nine minutes to play, SHU closed the quarter on a 4-0 run. Two goals from John Miller, one from Johnson and one from John Hofseth gave SHU a 14-3 lead heading to the fourth quarter. Walsh opened the fourth quarter by scoring the first three goals. Two goals from Robert Hofseth and one from Michael Malloy closed out the scoring. Johnson led the SHU attack with 3 goals and 4 assists. Maloni added 2 goals and 4 assists. Hofseth finished with 2 goals and 2 assists. Ryan Manbeck, Dan Rupert and John Miller scored 2 goals each. Max Eismann finished with 9 saves. SHU will meet the winner of the Mercyhurst/Lake Erie semifinal in Saturday's championship game at noon.
