(U-M Lacrosse Stadium) Score: #8 Michigan 13, Jacksonville 9 Records: U-M (16-3), Jacksonville (17-4) Next U-M Event: Sunday, May 12 – vs. USC or Denver - NCAA Second Round (U-M Lacrosse Stadium), noon ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 8 seed University of Michigan women's lacrosse team secured its first NCAA Tournament win in program history with a 13-9 first-round victory over Jacksonville on Friday (May 10) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium. Michigan remains undefeated at home with its 10th win in the season at U-M Lacrosse Stadium. Three Wolverines tallied hat tricks against Jacksonville as Molly Garrett earned her second in as many games, Caitlin Muir had her fourth of the season and Adriana Pendino reached the 40-goal mark with her sixth hat trick of the year. Four other U-M players scored, with Chandler Kirby adding one goal and two assists against the Dolphins. Michigan won the draw control against Jacksonville, 14-10, with Garrett scoring two off the win on the draw and winning five in the game, while Nadine Stewart added three in the contest. Senior goalkeeper Mira Shane was the game-changer in the opening half, making 11 saves in the first 30 minutes and ended the game with 14, four shy of her career high. Shane's 14 saves mark the sixth time this season in which she has tallied 10 stop or more. The Wolverines jumped out to a 4-0 advantage which began with a goal that came just eight seconds off the opening draw from Garrett and two goals from Muir. The Dolphins answered back with two goals before Garrett scored her second goal of the day to put Michigan up, 5-2, with 23:47 remaining in the first half. The two teams exchanged goals to close out the opening half with Michigan holding a 7-5 lead at halftime. Garrett and Muir led U-M with two goals each, while Shane made 11 saves to help the Wolverines to maintain their lead. Michigan opened the second half with a goal from Maggie Kane to keep Jacksonville from closing the gap on the Wolverines . The teams exchanged goals until Pendino added her second of the game to put the Wolverines up, 11-7. Muir netted the third straight goal for the Maize and Blue with 14:16 left in the contest. Michigan will continue its NCAA Tournament run Sunday (May 12) when it will take on the winner of Friday night's USC vs. Denver contest. First draw for the Wolverines' second-round contest is scheduled for noon at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
