The second ranked Salisbury University men's lacrosse team rolled past Ohio Wesleyan University on Sunday afternoon, 18-9, behind dominant performances from Brett Malamphy and Corey Gwin. Malamphy was exceptional from start to finish on the afternoon as he helped generate the Sea Gulls (5-0) offensive attack, winning a career-high 21-of-25 faceoffs. Malamphy was a perfect 12-of-12 in the opening frame as Salisbury pumped in nine goals in the first quarter to take a commanding 9-2 lead, which it never looked back from. Four of Salisbury's first nine goals were scored within a minute or less of the faceoff win, including two on man up opportunities. Gwin, who finished the day with a team-best in both points and goals, totaling nine and seven, respectively, had a hand in four of the nine first quarter goals for the maroon and gold. Salisbury struck twice in the opening two minutes as both Cross Ferrara and Tyler Snyder each found the back of the net off a Gwin feed. Gwin got in on the scoring action himself when he tallied his first marker of the day by finishing off a great unassisted effort to push the home team's advantage to 4-0. The Sea Gulls opened the game on a 6-0 run before the Battling Bishops (1-3) got on the scoreboard, netting two straight to pull within four, 6-2. However, three consecutive tallies by the maroon and gold, including a man up goal from Gwin with just over a minute left in the opening 15 minutes, pushed the lead to seven. In the second quarter, Gwin continued his offensive outburst by scoring all three of the Sea Gulls' goals, including two in the final three and a half minutes of the frame, finishing off feeds from Pierre Armstrong, who netted his first two markers of the season, and Snyder, who rounded out his day with a third consecutive hat trick and an assist. At the break Salisbury held a 12-4 advantage thanks in large part to a perfect 17-of-17 performance by Malamphy in the opening half and goals from six different Sea Gull players. The team continued to roll in the second half as it outscored Ohio Wesleyan 6-5 in the final 30 minutes, as two Sea Gulls notched the first points of their collegiate careers. Gavin Dembeck netted the final marker of the afternoon to push the scoreline final for his first goal as he finished off a pass from fellow newcomer Chris Gibbs for Gibbs's first assist. Malamphy led all Salisbury players with another career-high 14 groundballs, marking the first time in his career at Salisbury he has totaled double-digit groundballs. Kevin Murphy and Jackson Woodward helped anchor a solid defensive outing, recording two caused turnovers apiece as the defense forced 13 for the afternoon. Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, March 9 when it travels to out of conference rival Stevenson University for a 7 p.m. showdown with the 19th ranked Mustangs at Mustang Stadium.
