No. 6 York (Pa.) College out-scored eighth-ranked Gettysburg College 11-3 over the final three quarters on the way to a 14-6 decision in non-conference men's lacrosse action at a frigid Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium Wednesday afternoon. With temperatures resting in the low 20s for much of the game, York (5-0) seized momentum in the second quarter with a 5-1 run. The Spartans finished the game with the lead in shots (45-38) and ground balls (34-26), while forcing Gettysburg (3-2) into 19 turnovers. The road team has won each of the last four meetings in the series. Senior Jack Harvey (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) and junior Michael McCormick (Lorton, Va./Paul VI Catholic) each tallied two goals for the Bullets, while junior Brian Kolen (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) posted a goal and an assist. Sophomore defenseman Andrew Horn (Bronxville, N.Y./Avon Old Farms) tracked down eight ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers. Sophomore Alex Ulrich (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) went 14-of-23 on face-offs and grabbed three ground balls. Freshman Scott MacMillan (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) recorded a dozen saves in goal. Six Spartans tossed in at least two goals with Dylan Wolf recording three to go along with four assists. Hunter Davis, Thomas Pfeiffer, and Jake Hvazda each turned in two goals and one assist. Defensemen J.D. Beck and Ryan Kennedy combined for five caused turnovers and nine ground balls, while goalie Jack Michael produced 11 saves. Gettysburg didn't waste much time getting into the scoring column, capitalizing on a turnover by York and turning it into a goal by Harvey 1:37 into the game. The Spartans answered with a 3-0 spurt with Wolf assisting on the first two scores before throwing in his own tally with 4:24 left in the first quarter. The Bullets rallied to tie the game before the end of the period as McCormick found his way to the cage twice, including a diving lunge to the goal with four seconds left. York broke the tie with two quick goals in the second period and after another goal by Harvey pulled Gettysburg to 5-4 on the scoreboard, the Spartans reeled off the final three goals of the second quarter to take an 8-4 into the break. MacMillan posted four saves in the third quarter, but Gettysburg was unable to gain ground as the Spartans' stout defense kept the Bullets in check. The hosts committed seven turnovers in the period and the margin grew to 10-5 on a goal by Hvazda. The Spartans carried the momentum into the fourth quarter, netting each of the first four goals of the period. Gettysburg hosts Widener University this Saturday at 1 p.m.
