The University of Detroit Mercy men's lacrosse team dropped a road contest versus nationally ranked Notre Dame on Saturday evening. Senior Matthew Vangalen posted his tenth career hat trick with four goals, and in the process collected his 100th point wearing a Titan jersey. He also added an assist to go with his four goals on five shots. Sophomore Brett Erskine notched his first goal of the season and added an assist, while Cam Kostus added a goal as well. The Titans were outshot, 36-21, while going 15-18 on clears and winning 11 faceoffs. Sophomore goaltender Logan Shamblin had seven saves on the night. Detroit Mercy will now have a week off before heading to Marquette to face the Golden Eagles on Feb 23. First Quarter: The Titans fell behind by two goals in the first three minutes, but answered back nearly immediately Vangalen notched his first goal of the game at the 10:51 mark and halved the Titans deficit Just over a minute later, Erskine tallied his first marker of the season, assisted by Vangalen and leveled the score at 2-2 The Titans took the lead at 5:34 courtesy of a goal from Kostus, which was assited by junior Matt Turner The Irish scored two late goals to take a 4-3 lead after one period of action from South Bend Second Quarter: Vangalen leveled the score, 4-4, at the 9:01 mark Notre Dame then ended the half hot, regaining a lead of 7-4 at halftime Third Quarter: Seth Mendell scooped up a groundball and fired a few shots, along with Brent Lubin, but they were unable to find twine in the third quarter The Irish took control in the third quarter, leading by a score of 12-4 headed into the final quarter of action Fourth Quarter: Vangalen completed his hat trick at the 7:06 mark with a man-up goal He added goal number four on the day at 4:03 courtesy of an assist from Erskine The Titans were overpowered by the nationally ranked Irish by a final score of 19-6
