Eight different Stony Brook men's lacrosse players recorded goals as the Seawolves held on to take down Brown, 13-11, on Saturday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Junior attacker Tom Haun (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) netted a hat trick, while junior goalkeeper Michael Bollinger (Holbrook, N.Y.) recorded 12 big saves for the Seawolves (1-1). Three other Stony Brook players notched two goals against the Bears (1-1), including freshman midfielder Layton Harrell (Newtown, Conn.), junior midfielder Connor Grippe (Setauket, N.Y.) and junior attacker Chris Pickel Jr. (Bayport, N.Y.). Stony Brook held an 8-4 halftime lead and a 13-6 advantage entering the fourth quarter before Brown's Darian Cook scored five goals of his own in the fourth quarter to climb to within two. QUOTING THE SEAWOLVES Head Coach Jim Nagle "I am proud of the way our team hung on through the end of game against a well coached, very up tempo Brown team. We are definitely learning a lot from our early season adversity. Bollinger gets the game ball with some big saves down the stretch." HIGHLIGHTS After Brown scored just second into the game, Tom Haun scored his first goal of the game to even it up at 1-1 with 5:15 left in the opening quarter. The Seawolves took the lead for good just over a minute later when Haun netted his second goal of the game. Layton Harrell gave Stony Brook a two-goal advantage with 2:12 remaining in the first quarter with a goal assisted by sophomore midfielder Mike McCannell (Orangeville, Ontario). Stony Brook posted five second quarter goals, including a pair by Connor Grippe. Sophomore attacker Jack Walsh (Miller Place, N.Y.) tallied three assists in the second quarter. The Seawolves also posted five goals in the third quarter, the final coming off the stick of sophomore midfielder Patrick Kaschalk (Windsor, Ontario) with 1:24 left in the quarter. Michael Bollinger gathered a pair of big saves in the fourth quarter, including one in the final minute. He finished the game with 12 saves.
