The UMBC men's lacrosse team returns to UMBC Stadium on Saturday, March 2 as they host the Brown Bears. The opening face-off is set for noon and the game will be broadcast on the America East digital network. RETRIEVER REVIEW: Junior attackman Ryan Frawley (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) and senior Josh Jordan (Lunenberg, Mass.) each notched a hat-trick as UMBC held off Mount St. Mary's, 13-10, on February 23. Sophomore attackman Trevor Patschorke (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) also fueled the offense with two goals and an assist. The 13 goals produced by UMBC is the most since a 15-goal effort versus Mercer in February of 2017. Junior attackman Brett McIntyre (2g) (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) and senior midfielder Billy Nolan (1g, 1a) (Crofton, Md./Arundel) also produced multiple points for UMBC. Patschorke leads the team with eight goals and 11 points through two games. Frawley, who also posted a hat trick at Navy, enters play on Saturday with seven goals and two helpers. Nolan leads the squad with four a ssists. Junior defenseman Colin Kasner (Crofton, Md./DeMatha) leads the squad with 11 ground balls and eight caused turnovers in three games. He is tied for eighth in the nation in forced miscues. As a team, UMBC is tied for ninth in the nation with Syracuse at 11.67 caused turnovers per game. Scouting the Bears: Brown opened the season with a convincing 20-7 victory over Quinnipiac on February 16, before falling, 13-11 to Stony Brook the following Saturday. Both games were played at home on Stevenson-Pincince Field. The Bears posted a record of 6-9 a season ago and were 3-3 in Ivy League competition. Freshman attackman Darian Cook earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors after his effort versus Stony Brook. Cook exploded for five consecutive fourth quarter goals, scoring the only goals by either team in the quarter. Brown trailed 13-6 heading into the fourth quarter and Cook brought the Bears back to a 13-11 deficit by netting his fifth goal with two minutes remaining. Cook also added an earlier assist to finish with six points against the Seawolves. Cook, who netted three goals in the Bears' season opener vs. Quinnipiac, has eight goals for the season to lead all Brown goal scorers. He has three of Brown's six man-up goals (6-of-15) on the year. Junior attackman Luke McCaleb (5g, 6a) and sophomore midfielder George Grell (4g, 6a) are in double figures in scoring through two games. Brown has outscored its first two foes, 10-2, in the fourth quarter this season. THE SERIES: UMBC and Brown have met three times, with the Retrievers posting vicories on all three occasions. UMBC defeated Brown, 13-5, in 1981, 6-4, in 2006 and 12-11 in overtime in 2007. The lone game in Rhode Island took place in 2006.
