SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 1 Boston College lacrosse team completed a five-goal comeback to top No. 10/11 Syracuse, 14-12, Saturday afternoon at the Carrier Dome. Senior attack Sam Apuzzo held the team with seven goals, becoming Boston College's all-time goal leader with 199 over her career. Senior goalkeeper Lauren Daly racked up 12 saves, a career-best, further holding off the Syracuse offense in the comeback win. The conference opener started slowly as both offenses were held off for the first five minutes. The Orange had a promising start as they shot to a 7-2 lead over the Eagles early in the first half before Apuzzo unlocked and put BC back in the race with two consecutive goals. Taylor Walker added to complete the scoring as the Eagles headed to the halftime break down by two. The Eagles came out of the half hot, as senior Dempsey Arsenault knocked the deficit to one just 47 seconds into the second frame. Syracuse notched one goal to answer Arsenault's before Apuzzo combined with juniors Sheila Rietano and Cara Urbank for five straight scores for the Eagles. Syracuse's Emily Hawryschuk grabbed her third and fourth goals of the day before BC added three more from Rietano, Arsenault and Apuzzo. Syracuse capped off the scoring for the afternoon with Mary Rahal and Megan Carney's second goals of the day, coming just short and securing the Boston College win.
