NEWTON, Mass. – The No. 1 Boston College lacrosse team continued their rout of top-15 teams as they toppled No. 13 Duke, 20-12, Saturday afternoon in Newton. Six Eagles recorded at least two goals, led by senior captain Dempsey Arsenault with five goals and one assist for six points on the day. Sam Apuzzo followed behind with four goals and three assists while Kenzie Kent found three goals of her own and assisted on five others. Junior Cara Urbank and senior Taylor Walker each recorded two goals while junior Sheila Rietano was dominant in the draw circle, winning a team-high seven draws. The opening half was a battle from both sides as the contest saw five ties through the first 30 minutes. The Eagles found their footing with about 10 minutes remaining in the half, as they went on a 4-1 goal run to round out the half. Rietano and Apuzzo led through the first, each tallying two goals a piece. The Blue Devils hopped out with a forceful start to the second half as Abby Landry tallied back-to-back goals to open it up. Rietano and Arsenault answered back before Olivia Jenner tallied her third of the day. Jenner's goal would be the last before a 9-1 goal stretch for BC as the Blue Devils only tallied on a free position from Catherine Cordrey in the span of 17 minutes. Duke switched out goalie Gabby Cadoux for Chase Henriquez following the Eagles' 20th goal of the day as BC followed suit and changed sophomore Abbey Ngai for Lauren Daly with 3:15 remaining in the contest. Duke pushed with two goals from Ellie Majure and Maddie Jenner to close out the game but couldn't find the route to stop the Eagle offense. Before the game, the team honored the memory of Welles Crowther with their annual ceremony as senior Hannah Hyatt was selected to wear No. 19 for the game in his memory.
