Junior goalkeeper Katie McGahan tied her season-high with 13 saves, as the Cornell women's lacrosse team topped Brown, 10-7, Saturday afternoon at Schoellkopf Field. Eight of McGahan's 13 saves came in the second half. The Atlanta native has now registered double-digit saves in five games this year. The Big Red (8-4, 4-1 Ivy League) had two different players register hat tricks with Olivia Jensen and Tomasina Leska each netted three goals. For Jensen it marks a new career-high, while Leska has now scored 14 goals in her last three games. Brown's (6-7, 2-3 Ivy League) KC Williams opened the scoring with a goal assisted by Risa Mosenthal just over two and a half minutes into the contest. The Big Red was held off the board for the opening 11:30 until Jensen netted her first of the day right on the doorstep after the find from Sarah Phillips. Phillips responded by scoring the contests next two goals. Brown fought back to even the score at three with tallies from Sophia DeRosa and Zoe Verni, but the Big Red closed out the half on a 3-0 run to take the 6-3 advantage into halftime. The Bears opened the scoring in the second half with a goal from Mason Warble just over two minutes in to cut the Big Red's lead to two. Though Cornell again responded with a 3-0 run to shoot ahead 9-4 with goals coming from Jensen, Caroline Allen and Leska. The Bears went on a 3-0 scoring run of their own to cut the Big Red's lead back to two goals with 2:16 left, but Leska's third tally of the game, which came with 22.5 seconds remaining, sealed the win. The Big Red resumes action when it makes the short trip north to Syracuse to take on the No. 3 Orange in the Carrier Dome at 7 p.m. next Tuesday. NOTES TO KNOW Hannah O'Reilly, who picked up two groundballs, played in her first game since March 11 against Marist when she suffered an injury. The Big Red won the groundball ball battle, 21-19. With the win Cornell surpassed its season win-total from last year. Allen, who registered her 100th career point last weekend against Yale, netted her 29th career free position goal which passes Shannon McHugh (2009-12) and Sarah Averson (2000-03) for second place all-time in program history. She is now eight shy of tying Cari Hills for the most all-time.
