Rutgers men's lacrosse was downed 14-13 on Saturday by Stony Brook (4-1). The Scarlet Knights were led by Adam Charalambides with four goals and got 15 saves from goalkeeper Stephen Russo. Tommy Coyne added a hat trick for the Scarlet Knights. Kieran Mullins, Ross Scott and Brennan Kamish each had two goals. Stony Brook had a 51-42 advantage in shots and 35-28 in ground balls. HOW IT HAPPENED Stony Brook had the advantage after one quarter, outscoring RU 4-2 in the frame. The Scarlet Knights came back with a 4-0 second quarter, taking a 6-4 halftime lead. The Seawolves scored four of the next five goals, taking a 8-7 lead midway through the third quarter. The home team answered with a flurry, scoring the next four goals to take an 11-8 lead. Kieran Mullins had back-to-back goals, and then Brennan Kamish added two tallies as the Scarlet Knights led by three with 11:41 remaining. However, Stony Brook struck with a 6-0 run, taking a 14-11 lead with four minutes remaining. The Scarlet Knights were not deterred, and added two late goals from Scott and Charalambides. However, RU was unable to find one more goal to equalize and the visitors claimed a 14-13 win. NOTES Adam Charalambides scored his 100th career goal at Rutgers, becoming the 11th Scarlet Knight all-time to reach 100 goals. He now has 103 career goals, passing Bob Kelly and moving into 10th place all-time. Charalambides had his 18th career game with at least three goals. Kieran Mullins had two goals and two assists for four points. Mullins now has 175 career points, passing Bob Andrews to move into 10th place all-time at RU. Tommy Coyne had his fifth career hat trick. James Ringer had his second career assist. Brennan Kammish had his first multi-goal game of the season. It was Stephen Russo's second straight game with at least 15 saves. Bobby Russo had a career-high two caused turnovers. UP NEXT The Scarlet Knights are on the road next Saturday.
