The No. 13/14 Army West Point men's lacrosse team powered past NJIT, 19-1, Monday afternoon in its second win in three days at Michie Stadium. Jacob Morin and Brendan Nichtern each recorded hat tricks in the first two quarters of action. Nichtern started the game off hot with a score 10 seconds into the action thanks to a faceoff win and hustle up the field by Stevie Grabher. Nichtern then assisted Connor DeWitt on the next possession to put Army ahead 2-0. Grabher won his third straight faceoff of the contest and charged down for a Cadet goal, the first of his career. For Army's fourth goal, Miles Silva registered his first-career assist after finding Nichtern. Morin then tallied back-to-back goals with the first off a feed from Bobby Abshire. Matt Manown found the back of the net on an unassisted goal to open up the second quarter with a 7-0 lead. Nickolas Edinger then connected with Sean O'Brien for a quick stick goal before Nichtern found Morin for another score. Nichtern closed out the first half with a crease roll goal to give the Black Knights a 10-0 advantage. The Cadets were right back to business out of the locker room, this time with Greg Coleman in net. Nichtern set up the next three Army goals scored by Abshire, Silva and O'Brien. Ethan Barangan joined the party winning a faceoff and then dishing it down to O'Brien for his second in a row as well. NJIT netted its lone goal at the 8:54 mark of the third quarter to cut the Cadets' lead to 14-1. That didn't slow down the Black Knights though as they finished the game with five unanswered goals. A goal by Chase Taylor sparked the run. O'Brien was credited with the assist. Aidan Byrnes netted his first-career goal with 29 seconds left on the clock in the third quarter of action. The Black Knights' ride forced an NJIT turnover which Joey Stillings took advantage of finding Byrnes on transition. Taylor scored his second of the game with 9:07 left to play off an assist from Brendan Ryan. Bo Waters posted his first-career goal and to cap Army's scoring was Paul Johnson from Byrnes.
