The Bellarmine lacrosse team fell behind early, and visiting Boston University never let the Knights back in it as the Terriers ran out to a 17-11 victory at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The visitors scored the game's first two goals to give them the early lead, but the real damage was done in the second quarter. After the Knights had pulled within a goal at 4-3, Boston University reeled off six straight to extend the cushion to seven as they went on to hold a 12-5 advantage at halftime. The Knights, which have twice fought back from large deficits this season, couldn't mount a comeback in the second half. The Terriers scored early in the third period, and the closest Bellarmine could get was six the rest of the way. "I thought we continued to compete extremely hard," said Bellarmine Coach Andrew Whitley. "I am pleased that our kids continue to battle all game. We just need to manage our opponents' runs a little better. When those untimely plays go against us both offensively and defensively, we tend to press a little too much on the ensuing play, and it can snowball." Despite facing a 24-7 faceoff deficit, the Knights managed to get off three more shots than the Terriers, but only 22 were on target and Boston goalies came up with 11 saves. "Their faceoff guy (Sean Christman) is excellent and certainly gave them some possessions," Whitley said. "We needed to dig in and get stops defensively, particularly in the second quarter." Boston University's Jake Cates led all scorers with four goals and three assists while the Terriers' Louis Perfetto and Vince D'Alto turned in five-point performances. Luke Legnard paced the Knights' offense with four goals while Morgan Macko added a goal and three assists with Blake Roshkowski chipping in a pair of goals. Whitely said he sees some good signs from the Knights. "When we're organized on offense and defense, we can compete with a lot of teams. There are certainly some bright spots with Luke Legnard scoring four goals and Blake Roshkowski becoming a dangerous threat in transition." The Knights fall to 2-4 on the season while Boston University improves to 2-3. Bellarmine now hits the road for its next three games, beginning with a trip to Washington DC to take on Georgetown on Saturday.
