By 3d Rising Staff   A pair of high profile rematches in Colorado and Massachusetts highlight this week’s Lax.com Games of the Week, as well as slew of exciting matchups in the Empire State.   Duxbury (Mass.) looks to get back into the win column against Medfield (Mass.) while Mountain Vista (Colo.) and Cherry Creek (Colo.) meet for the second time this season.   Meanwhile in Maryland, a pair of MIAA A Conference teams look to rebound from losses. Among the interesting games in New York, West Genesee (N.Y.) and Fayetteville-Manlius (N.Y.) clash in a key Section 3 battle, while Long Island has a variety of highly anticipated games on tap.   West Genesee (N.Y.) at Fayetteville-Manlius (N.Y.), May 2   A meeting of the top two Class A schools in Section 3, this is also a classic rivalry with plenty on the line for both the Wildcats and the Hornets. Mike Messere, the Wildcats head coach since 1976, has coached his team to more wins than any other coach in lacrosse. West Genesee is being led this season by Jay Considine’s 48 points, while Donovan Welsh (Fairfield) is pacing Fayetteville-Manlius with 60 points so far. The Wildcats sit atop the CNYCL standings at 5-0 in conference play and 10-1 overall. The Hornets are 7-3 overall, 4-1 in conference and sitting just behind West Genny in the standings.   Mountain Vista (Colo.) at Cherry Creek (Colo.), May 2 This is a rematch of the April 7 meeting in which Cherry Creek won 12-7. Mountain Vista rebounded from that loss with an 11-10 win over Torrey Pines (Calif.) and then an 8-5 win over Regis Jesuit (Colo.). Colin Munro (North Carolina) leads the Eagles with 34 goals this season with Jake Govett (Delaware) and Jake Frane (Notre Dame) close behind with 27 and 26 respectively. Cherry Creek has won 10-straight games since it dropped a 14-11 decision to Regis Jesuit on March 15. The Bruins are the current No. 1 team in the 3d Rising State-by-State Rankings. Junior Henry Savage leads the team with 36 goals and Asher Nolting (High Point) leads in points (71) and assists (40).   St. Mary’s (Md.) at McDonogh (Md.), May 4 The Saints started off their MIAA A Conference season with back-to-back wins over Archbishop Spalding (Md.) and St. Paul’s (Md.). With a loss to Boys’ Latin (Md.) and Calvert Hall (Md.), St. Mary’s looks to get back into the win column. They face Loyola-Blakefield (Md.) early in the week, and then finish against McDonogh (Md.). McDonogh has had quite the stretch — it started with 10-9 loss in overtime to Boys’ Latin, followed by games against St. Paul’s and St. Mary’s this week. Jack Parr (Brown) is averaging almost four points per game in MIAA play this season for the Eagles.   Smithtown East (N.Y.) vs. Connetquot (N.Y.), May 5 After losing two of three to start the year, Smithtown East won eight-straight games before falling to Ward Melville (N.Y.) last Friday. They have posted wins over Massapequa (N.Y.) and West Islip (N.Y.) this season. Star attackman/midfielder Connor DeSimone (Johns Hopkins) has 68 points so far this season, which leads all players on Long Island. Connetquot has stumbled after winning six consecutive games — losing two of three. But this provides a big chance for the Thunderbirds as they wrap up the regular season with games against Smithtown East, William Floyd and Ward Melville. Junior George Wichelns (Maryland) has 60 points to pace Connetquot thus far.   Medfield (Mass.) at Duxbury (Mass.), May 6 A meeting of state powers showcases the Warriors of Medfield who have not lost a game to an in-state opponent since May 21 of 2016. Duxbury’s only losses this season came to Garden City (N.Y.) and Pittsford (N.Y.). These teams met last season and Medfield came away with a 13-9 victory. Duxbury looks to snap a two-year losing streak to the Warriors. The Dragons last won this meeting 8-5 in 2014. There are future college lacrosse players on both rosters, including Medfield’s standout sophomore attackman Owen Murphy (Johns Hopkins).   Manhasset (N.Y.) at Chaminade (N.Y.), May 6 The Indians travel to face the Flyers in another huge Long Island matchup. Both teams have been ranked this season in the USA Today High School Sports Super 25, with Chaminade coming in at No. 24 last week. Manhasset is coming off a win over Garden City in the Wood Stick Classic, while Chaminade is riding three straight wins after falling to St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.). The Indians only losses so far this year were suffered to Darien and St. Anthony’s.
