Lax.com Rising High School Games of the Week - May 29, 2017 By 3d Rising Staff   facebook rising weekddd 14   Another edition of the Lax.com Rising High School Games of the Week sees the playoff run in progress for all the states still in action this season and possible title runs underway for many of the nationally ranked programs. But before they can worry about winning it all, each of this week’s featured teams must survive tough games to advance. In New Jersey, Delbarton (N.J.) can win the Non Public Group A tournament and give itself a chance to move onto the Tournament of Champions. On Long Island, powerhouses collide when the county finals take place. Arguably some of the best games of the year each season, the Suffolk County Class A finals sees Smithtown East taking on Ward Melville, while Manhasset hosts Garden City in another battle of two traditional strongholds. May 30 The Nassau County Class B finale features a classic Long Island matchup of traditional lacrosse powers as the Indians host the Trojans – the second meeting of the year for these two squads. Manhasset edged Garden City 10-8 in the 131st Wood Stick Classic back on April 29. To get here, the Indians defeated Hewlett 14-2 in the county semis behind four goals and two assists from Luke Keating. Garden City had to take down South Side 12-7. Kevin Mack (Michigan) scored once and assisted on three other goals in that win. Manhasset   La Salle College (Pa.) vs. Spring-Ford (Pa.), May 30 The Explorers meet the Rams in the District 12 AAA title game. La Salle is coming off its second consecutive Philadelphia Catholic League championship - a 13-3 win over St. Joseph’s Prep (Pa.). La Salle has won 18 consecutive games, with its only loss being to Hill Academy (Ont.). Spring-Ford has won its last two games to get here after dropping a 6-5 decision to Central Bucks East (Pa.) on May 20. The Explorers, which are ranked at No. 7 in the latest USA Today Super 25 are the favorites to win the PIAA AAA title this year. Smithtown East (N.Y.) vs. Ward Melville (N.Y.), May 31   This game is for the Suffolk County Class A title and is a rematch of their May 27 meeting. That was the last time Smithtown East loss - taking a 12-11 defeat. The Bulls are led by Connor DeSimone (Johns Hopkins) who has 111 points this season. He had three points in the prior meeting against Ward Melville. Smithtown East beat rival Smithtown West 7-5 in the semifinals to reach the title game. Ward Melville has five players with at least 30 points this season, led by Dylan Pallonetti (UMass) with 55 points and Matt Grillo with 51. The Patriots defeated Half Hollow Hills East (N.Y.) 15-6 in the other half of the county semifinal. The Patriots have won 11 straight games since they dropped a 10-9 decision to Lincoln-Sudbury (Mass.) on April 15. Their only loss to an in-state team was against Chaminade (N.Y.) on April 8.   WardMelville   Delbarton (N.J.) vs. Seton Hall Prep (N.J.), May 31 NJSIAA Non Public, Group A Tournament Final features two of the top teams in New Jersey. Delbarton is coming off a 22-6 win over St. Peter’s Prep (N.J.) in the semifinals. Sixteen players had a point for the Green Wave in the win, led by Michael Long’s six points. The Green Wave has a shot at avenging its only loss of the year when the fell 8-7 to Seton Hall Prep on April 13. Delbarton has won 14-straight games since that loss. Seton Hall Prep defeated Bergen Catholic (N.J.) 17-4 in the other semifinal. Griffin Westlin (Johns Hopkins) scored eight points and Brian Tevlin (Yale) scored six in the victory. Goalie Cameron Fiore (Brown) made 17 saves for Seton Hall Prep in the previous meeting with Delbarton. Westlin led the team with six points. Casey Shoemaker led the Green Wave with three goals in the first game.   Conard-West Hartford (Conn.) at Darien (Conn.), May 31 Darien starts its title defense in the first round of the Class L state playoffs. The Blue Wave already has the longest winning streak in state history at 50 games and coming off a 20-4 win over Ridgefield (Conn.) in the FCIAC championship game. Logan McGovern (Bryant) scored six goals in the win over Ridgefield. Darien’s defense has been stellar this season.
