Senior Izzy Grant scored a career-high five goals to lead the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team to a 12-9 victory over Lafayette at Fisher Stadium. The Crusaders open the season at 1-0, while the Leopards start the year 0-1. Junior Jolie Creo had an outstanding game for Holy Cross, finishing with three goals and three assists. Junior Jordyn Arakelian, sophomore Jenna Giardina, senior Catherine Guanci and junior Margaret Mitchell also scored goals for the Crusaders, while junior Grace Flink made seven saves in net. Lafayette was led by Anna Stein with four goals and one assist. Holy Cross opened the game by jumping out to an early 3-0 lead on goals by Grant, Guanci and Creo. The Crusaders were later up 6-3 with less than eight minutes left before the break, when Creo and Mitchell scored to make the score 8-3 at halftime. In the second half, Holy Cross led 9-4 with less than 20 minutes remaining, before the Leopards scored three straight goals to trim the margin to 9-7. But Creo scored her third goal of the day and then fed Arakelian for a goal to put the Crusaders back up by four (11-7). Lafayette would get no closer than three goals the rest of the way, as Holy Cross pulled out the victory. The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, March 13, when they play host to Colgate at 4:00 p.m.
